BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team lost its weekend opener to North Carolina State, 20-5, at the Harrington Athletics Village on Friday afternoon. The Eagles evened their record at 14-14 overall and dropped to 4-12 in the ACC, while the Wolfpack improved to 12-11 and 6-10.
NC State scored in six of nine turns at-bat, including a three-spot in the second and third innings. The Wolfpack led 8-0 before BC got on the board with three runs in the sixth, but NC State pulled away for good with a 10-run top of the eighth.
Junior right-hander Mason Pelio (San Diego, Calif.) became the fifth straight BC starter to go six innings or more. He struck out five to three walks in six innings of work. The Wolfpack plated runs in four innings against Pelio (3-4); totaling eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits.
Right-hander Reid Johnston (3-1) allowed just one hit the first two times through the Eagles’ lineup before BC’s offense broke through. All three runs charged to Johnston came in the sixth inning as he totaled six strikeouts, two walks, and three hits allowed in 6.2 innings.
