A-10 Spotlight Player of the Week: Courtney Stockard St. Bonaventure

Nestled in the Alleghany mountains is a small Franciscan school called Saint Bonaventure University. The Bonnies are a member of the A-10 conference that has some good teams. Even more, they have special players that are nestled in the middle of the conference. There is one player on the Bonnies who paints a crystal clear picture of what the A-10 conference really is. Courtney Stockard may not have a fantastic skill set, but the 6-5 205-pound senior forward has other attributes that make him a true one of a kind player.

Stockard is a native of Saint Louis, Missouri and is a graduate of Jennings High School. After graduation, Courtney attended Allen Community College. At ACC he played in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. As a sophmore at Allen, he was second best in the conference averaging 23.2ppg and fifth best at rebounding averaging 9.0 per game. Stockard made 296 trips to the charity stripe in 29 games and made 75% of the shots. Stockard was known as an all-around player at Allen. He averaged a stellar 12.8PPG and 4.1 rebounds per game.  At the start of the 2015-2016 season, Stockard got the scholarship money to go play the sport he loved at St. Bonaventure. It is what happened during a preseason practice that changed his career forever. During that team practice, Stockard broke a bone in his left foot and was sidelined. Fast-forward to the following season at another preseason practice Stockard reinjured that same foot. The consensus was his career was over but, boy was everyone wrong.

In his first year of two remaining, Stockard was a key player in the return of the brown and white to the NCAA “March Madness” 16.3PPG and 6.3 rebounds per game. From the floor, he went 48.5% and from beyond the arc he successfully dished 33.9% as a junior. He played in 33 games and in 16 of those #11 was a member of the starting five. His most impressive performance came in a 43-minute triple OT where he had a 31 point, seven rebound performance.
