CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — After averaging 19.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists while posting a 3.00:1 assist/turnover ratio in a 2-0 week for Boston College, Wynston Tabbs was named the ACC’s Rookie of the Week.
The freshman guard shot 56.0% (14-25) from the floor on the week, including 50.0% (6-12) from 3-point land, and made 5-of-7 attempts from the free throw line.
Tabbs had 19 points, three rebounds, and three assists in the win over Columbia on Dec. 12. The Suitland, Md. native scored 14 of his 19 in the second half for the Eagles. Last time out against Fairfield, he scored 20 points to go along with five boards, a season-high six assists, a blocked shot, and a steal.
Over his last five games, Tabbs is averaging 20.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists while falling just short of the “Steph Curry” line (50% FG; 40% 3FG; 90% FT). He is connecting on 52.3% FG; 42.3% 3FG; and 84.6% from the FT line during the five games.
He is one of 25 players nationally – and the only freshman in the country – to average the following stats line: 15.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.1 steals per game.
Tabbs’ 15.8 points per game rank second on the team in scoring and 13th overall in the ACC. He ranks fourth among all freshman in the conference in scoring – and in 21st nationally among all first-year players – in scoring average.
He becomes the first Boston College player to earn ACC Rookie of the Week honors since Ky Bowman on Jan. 3, 2017.
