  • After allowing five runs in the first two innings, junior RHP Jacob Stevens settled in and retired nine of the final 10 batters he faced, allowing just a double. He struck out four, including three looking.
  • Sophomore Brian Dempsey tallied the Eagles’ only RBI of the game. He has at least one hit in 16 of the Eagles’ 23 games this season and in 30 of the last 43 games played, dating back to last year. He also reached base safely in the 21 of the 23 games this season.
  • Junior LHP Zach Stromberg threw two innings of relief, allowing one hit, two unearned runs and a walk while striking out two.
  • Freshman Brandon Stone registered his first career hit in the ninth, coming in as a pinch hitter.

KEY PLAYS

  • The Tigers scored five runs over the first two innings to take a 5-1 lead. They did not look back, adding five more off Stromberg and junior RHP John Witkowski.
  • Clemson starter LHP Jacob Hennessy allowed just one hit and one unearned run through six innings to quiet the BC bats.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers scored three in the first to take an early lead. Stevens loaded the bases with one out on two walks and a single and Robert Jolly doubled to right to clear the bases. Stevens forced two ground balls to end the inning.
  • The Eagles scored one in the second thanks to the speed of Galland. He logged the first BC hit of the game with a two-out double, testing the arm of right fielder Seth Beer. The freshman then stole second and came home when CU catcher Kyle Wilkie’s throw sailed into left field.
  • Clemson added two in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-1 lead. With the bases loaded, Chris Williams hit a two-out single through the left side to plate two before Stevens ended the inning with a strikeout looking.
  • The Tigers scored two in the sixth with Stromberg in the game. Grayson Byrd reached on a fielding error. Pinch runner Adam Renwick moved to second on a sac bunt, to third on a balk and, after a walk, Renwick scored on a safety squeeze. Beer followed with an RBI single through the right side to make it 7-1.
  • A Beer home run in the eighth gave Clemson a 10-1 advantage. Witkowski started the inning with a strikeout but two reached on a walk and infield single. After a foul fly out, Beer launched the first pitch he saw over the right-center wall. Witkowski ended the inning with another K.
  • The Eagles scored a run in the ninth off RHP Bo Gobin. With one out, redshirt junior Scott Braren singled to center and the Eagles tallied three straight two-out base hits off Gobin to bring home run, as Dempsey singled to left to plate Braren.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

  • Clemson improved to 29-8 in the all-time series and has won the last eight straight meetings between the two teams.
  • The Eagles are 1-9 when they make two or more errors in the field.
  • Senior Jake Palomaki‘s 17-game on-base streak came to an end in a 0-for-4 day. He has reached base in 21 of BC’s 23 games this season.
