CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College junior Dan Metzdorf was named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon. The left-hander struck out a career-high 13 in the series-clinching victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Metzdorf tied a career high with eight innings pitched. He allowed just two hits – both singles – and one run. The Burlington, Mass., native did not walk any of the 28 batters faced. When he left the game, the Eagles led, 2-1. After the Hokies tied the game in the top of the ninth, BC won on a walk-off grand slam to earn its first ACC series win of the 2018 season.
Terry Doyle was the last BC pitcher to record 13 strikeouts, doing so against Wake Forest on April 21, 2007 in a 4-3 victory.
The weekly honor was the first for Metzdorf and the second for the Eagles this season. Senior RHP Brian Rapp collected the accolades after the first week of the season.
Florida State’s Jackson Lueck was voted the Player of the Week and Metzdorf shared the pitching honors with Miami’s Evan McKendry.
The Eagles (9-12) host Connecticut (11-9) on Tuesday, March 27 at 3 p.m.
