The Eagles are 2-8-1 playing against defending National Champions. Prior to today, the last time BC played a team defending the National Title was a 20-17 loss to Florida State in 2013.

Boston College and Clemson were tied at seven entering the fourth quarter. It marked the first time since 2013 vs. BC that Clemson has been tied or trailed entering the fourth quarter against an unranked team.

Offense

Graduate wide receiver and captain Charlie Callinan missed the game and are out for an extended period of time with a foot injury. Senior captain and center Jon Baker have already been lost for the year due to a knee injury and senior linebacker Connor Strachan is out indefinitely with a knee injury. Combined, Callinan, Baker, and Strachan have played in 116 career games with 78 starts.

Junior wide receiver Michael Walker’s 27-yard punt return to the Clemson 37-yard line was the longest of the season for the Eagles.

Walker finished the day with a game-high 151 all-purpose yards.

The punt return by Walker set up BC’s first touchdown of the game as a true freshman running back AJ Dillon scored his first career touchdown on a 1-yard run. The TD was set up by a clutch fourth-down completion from Anthony Brown to Jon Hilliman on a wheel route earlier on the drive.

Defense

Senior cornerback Isaac Yiadom intercepted his second career pass in the first quarter as Harold Landry’s pressure forced an errant throw from Clemson QB Kelly Bryant. Yiadom also finished with a career-high eight tackles.

Junior free safety Lukas Denis finished with a career-high – and game-high – 13 tackles. His previous best was seven tackles, last week against Notre Dame (Sept. 16, 2017).

Denis recorded his team-leading third interception of the season in the third quarter stopped Clemson’s drive inside BC territory.

Senior linebacker Ty Schwab set new career highs with 11 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Junior linebacker Kevin Bletzer totaled a career-high six tackles and recorded his first career half sack. Bletzer also forced his first career fumble and totaled a new career-high with two passes defended.

Special Teams

Junior place-kicker Colton Lichtenberg missed his first field of the season from 43 yards out in the first quarter. Lichtenberg was 6-for-6 to start the year before his seventh field goal attempt bounced off the right upright.

Senior punter Mike Knoll had nine punts on the day, including six inside the 20-yard line and three inside the 10-yard line in the first half.

Senior place-kicker Max Schulze-Geisthovel booted the second half kickoff out of the end zone, his 11th touchback on 15 kickoffs this season.
