RECAP: Wake Forest 34, Boston College 10
Hilliman records first career receiving touchdown
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Wake Forest forced four Boston College turnovers and turned those into 21 points en route to a 34-10 victory on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium. It snapped a four-game win streak for the Eagles (1-1, 0-1 ACC).
After the Demon Deacons (2-0, 1-0 ACC) scored the first 14 points, BC cut it to seven on a six-yard touchdown reception by redshirt junior Jon Hilliman with just over three minutes to play in the first half. Wake grabbed a pick six to push it back up to 14 and, after a BC field goal, scored the final 13 points to seal the victory.
Redshirt freshman Anthony Brown was 11-for-29 for 119 passing yards and one touchdown. True freshman AJ Dillon recorded a career-high 15 carries to lead the team, logging a career-high 43 rushing yards.

BC HIGHLIGHTS

  • Dillon carried the ball a team-high 15 times, finishing the day with career highs in rushing attempts and rushing yards (43).
  • Hilliman recorded his first career receiving touchdown on a six-yard reception from Brown.
  • Junior Colton Lichtenberg stayed perfect on the season, hitting a 30-yard field goal in the third quarter to be 4-for-4 on the season.
  • Sophomore Max Richardson recorded his first career sack, finishing the day with a career-high seven tackles, while senior Harold Landry tallied his first sack of the season and 22nd of his career.

KEY MOMENT
Down 14-7 with 1:36 to play in the first half, Wake’s Essang Bassey picked off Brown’s pass and returned it 30 yards to give the Demon Deacons a 21-7 lead.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Wake Forest scored first following a Boston College turnover at its own 25-yard line. Cameron Glenn forced and recovered a fumble by Hilliman. Four plays later, John Wolford found Greg Dortch in the corner of the end zone for a nine-yard touchdown reception to make it 7-0 Demon Deacons with 1:28 left in the first.
  • Wake went up 14-0 five minutes into the second quarter following a 29-yard touchdown run by Wolford.
  • BC used an eight-play, 57-yard drive to cut the lead, 14-7, with 3:13 left in the half. Brown found Hilliman in the flat for a six-yard touchdown strike, Hilliman’s first-career receiving touchdown. Brown went 4-for-4 on the drive.
  • The Demon Deacons pushed the lead back to 14 points when a pass slipped through a BC receiver’s hands. Essang Bassey got under it and returned it 30 yards for the score with 1:36 remaining in the half.
  • Lichtenberg hit a 30-yard field goal with five minutes into the third quarter to cut the BC deficit to 21-10.
  • Wake Forest responded with a 28-yard field goal on the next drive to push the lead back to 24-10.
  • Jessie Bates III picked off Brown and returned it to the BC two-yard line. Cade Carney punched it in from there to make it 31-10 with 4:23 to play in the third.
  • Wake capped off the scoring with a 27-yard field goal with seven minutes to play in the game.
