ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The 57-year wait is officially over. For the first time in franchise history, the Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions. The city of Milwaukee can finally breathe and celebrate.
Behind a heroic, shutdown start from 24-year-old phenom Jacob Misiorowski, clutch execution from rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt, and an MVP-caliber performance from catcher William Contreras, Milwaukee defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field to seal a 4-1 Fall Classic victory.
The final out ignited an outpouring of emotion inside Tropicana Field, where thousands of traveling “Brew-Crew” fans had taken over the lower bowl behind the Milwaukee dugout, chanting and weeping as manager Pat Murphy’s squad hoisted the Commissioner’s Trophy.

“The Miz” Delivers Under the Brightest Lights
Taking the mound with a chance to write franchise history, Jacob Misiorowski pitched with poise far beyond his years. Mixing a 101-mph fastball with a wiping slider, “The Miz” held Tampa Bay’s lineup completely silent, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings and allowing just two hits on 86 pitches.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Misiorowski grimaced following a pitch to Junior Caminero. After a brief mound visit with Murphy and the training staff, Misiorowski walked off the field due to a right calf cramp. As he made his way to the dugout, the blue-and-gold faithful erupted into a thunderous standing ovation, recognizing a championship-defining start.
Tonight, Milwaukee is the center of the universe❕

Pratt’s Historic Bat and Contreras’ MVP Stamp
While Misiorowski kept the Rays at bay, Milwaukee’s offense systematically built its lead through timely situational hitting:
- 2nd Inning: Sal Frelick reached on a hit-by-pitch, and Cooper Pratt laced an RBI single off Rays starter Drew Rasmussen to draw first blood.
- 5th Inning: Pratt and Garrett Mitchell singled before David Hamilton grounded an RBI single through the right side off reliever Kevin Kelly, extending the advantage to 2-0.
- 6th Inning: Christian Yelich was hit by a pitch from Garrett Cleavinger and scored when World Series MVP William Contreras hammered an RBI double off the wall in left field. Brice Turang singled and stole second, setting up Pratt’s second RBI of the night—a sacrifice fly to deep right field that made it 4-0.
With his two-RBI performance, the 22-year-old Pratt finished the Fall Classic with seven RBIs, tying the MLB rookie record for most RBIs in a single World Series set by Gil McDougald of the 1951 New York Yankees. Contreras, who hit .381 across the five games with essential defensive sequencing, became only the eighth catcher in baseball history to earn World Series MVP honors.
Relentless Bullpen Seals the Historic Crown
Following Misiorowski’s exit, Murphy called upon his trust-tested bullpen corps. Left-hander JoJo Romero recorded the final out of the sixth, while power arm Abner Uribe worked two scoreless outs in the seventh.
Closer Trevor Megill took over for the final six outs. Tampa Bay mounted one final threat in the ninth when Chandler Simpson lined a two-out RBI double to score Liam Hicks, cutting the deficit to 4-1. Unfazed, Megill induced a game-ending flyout to Sal Frelick in right field, sparking a wild bench-clearing celebration on the turf.
For a franchise that won a major-league-best 103 regular-season games in 2026, the victory completes a dominant 11-2 postseason sprint, crowning Pat Murphy’s relentless squad as undisputed champions of the baseball world.
