On Tuesday night at LeLacheur Park, the Lowell Spinners hosted the Nashua Silver Knights, looking to bounce back from a tough weekend in Vermont where they dropped both games to the Lake Monsters.
The Spinners struck first, putting up a three-spot in the bottom of the first inning. Facing Nashua starter Lucas Collins (0-1), Lowell’s first three hitters reached base safely. A double down the left-field line from Quinn Murphy drove home the game’s first run to make it 1-0. An RBI groundout from Aiden Driscoll then scored David Vanderzouwen, and Bradley McCafferty followed with a single to left to plate Murphy, extending the Spinners’ lead to 3-0.
Lowell added to its cushion in the second frame. Another groundout from Murphy—this one deflecting off the pitcher’s glove—scored Fletcher Waterman, who had singled to left with one out, making it a 4-0 game. Meanwhile, Danny DiTullio was terrific on the mound for the Spinners. In his four innings of work, he allowed just three hits, walked two, and struck out two. Although he departed before becoming eligible for the win, his outing stood as one of the sharpest performance windows for Lowell this summer.
In the fifth, Lowell broke the game open against Nashua reliever Neil McKimmon. An RBI single by McCafferty, followed closely by a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt, allowed the Spinners to build a commanding 7-0 lead through five innings.
Nashua finally cracked the scoreboard in the sixth, plating three runs off reliever Dylan Lawrence. However, the Spinners’ pitching staff wasn’t about to let the lead slip away. Following Lawrence, Josh Bryant took over and completely locked things down for the final three innings. The only baserunner to reach against him was Hunter Trolanto via a hit-by-pitch, but he was promptly erased on a double play—one of two spectacular twin-killings turned by the Lowell defense. Bryant secured his second save of the summer by retiring eight of the nine batters he faced to seal the 7-3 victory.
The win marks the first time this summer that the Spinners have defeated Nashua. Lowell will look to carry this momentum into the weekend when they kick off a three-game homestand on Saturday.
