The USF Bulls will open their 2025 season just about a week from now. Coming into this year, the fans of the Bulls are hoping that the team can win more than six games. There have been many reasons why that could happen. Coming into camp, head coach Alex Golesh made some splashes in recruiting and getting players from the transfer portal. Camp for the team has gone well, and this comes after a great spring game. In that game, it showed what the Bulls have now and what is coming. One of the big reasons that USF could win more than six games is at the quarterback position. Last year, the starting quarterback was Bryum Brown, but he got injured and missed the rest of the 2024 season. Brown has nothing to prove, as in the 2023 season, he set many program records.
Brown did not play during the spring game because he does not have anything to prove. The Bulls also lost their backup quarterback as Bryce Archie was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds during the last MLB draft. One of the most important aspects is to keep Brown from being injured. The offense will continue to be fast-paced with the same style of offense that Golesh ran as an offensive coordinator at the University of Tennessee. This style has helped the USF Bulls win six regular-season games and both of their bowl appearances. The offense will look different as they lost one of Brown’s favorite weapons in Sean Atkins. One of the big questions is who the new backup quarterback will be. Could it be Marcelis Tate, Locklan Hewitt, Sam Fenton, or Gaston Moore? Tate and Hewitt were seen at the spring game.
The USF Bulls offense has been good over the last few years. The question is, can the defense stay good as well? The issues that the defense has had getting off the field. What happens with that is by the time we get into the second half, they are gassed. This is when the good college teams score points are put the game away. This year, Golesh has made sure his troops are stronger and has helped them be more prepared when it comes to getting the offense back on the field. Todd Orlando is ready to show the nation what type of defense the Bulls have. The USF defense did very well in the spring game and so far in camp. It will be tested because the start of the season will be tough.
For the first time since 2008, the USF Bulls will start the season with three top 25 opponents. They will start the season at home versus the #25 Boise State Broncos. The same Broncos that sent Ashton Jeanty to the NFL, who are now playing for the Las Vegas Raiders. The Bulls will be wearing their all-black uniforms with black helmets. After that, they hit he road in the same state to first play the #15 Florida Gators, which they have had close calls in the past two years. The final three-game gauntlet will end in Coral Gables, Florida, versus the #10 Miami Hurricanes. The best-case scenario is the Bulls can somehow go 2-1 and these three games. After the two road games, they return home to play the South Carolina State Bulldogs. The first bye week will come after those four games.
After the bye week, the USF Bulls will start conference play, which all college football fans know is very important. They start conference play at home versus the Charlotte 49ers. The 49ers are an up-and-coming team that could be a surprise in the American Conference. The next game will take place on Friday night, and the next opponent is the North Texas Mean Green. The following Saturday is homecoming against the FAU Owls, who have had some issues in the past. The next three games could be the toughest of conference play. First, they start with the Memphis Tigers, then a bye week before playing the UTSA Roadrunners at home, before heading to Annapolis, Maryland, to play the Navy Midshipmen. The final two games will be at home, and one will be on the road.
The road game will be taking place against the UAB Blazers, and the home game versus the Rice Owls. It will be exciting to see how the USF Bulls do in the 2025 season. They have the team placed to win more than six games, and if they can get through the first three games with a win or two, it will start the season off on the right foot. The hopes are to see the Bulls play or possibly host the American Championship. It will all kick off at 5:30 PM on the 28th under the lights at Raymond James Stadium.
