The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are adding a new member to their Ring of Honor. Last year, they did not add anyone but a few who could be added in the future, like James Wilder, Gerald McCoy, or Gene Deckerhoff. Many will ask how Deckerhoff deserves to be in the Ring of Honor. He has been the voice of the Buccaneers since 19 and this will be his 36th year calling games. The newest member is a fan favorite in Simeon Rice, who wore number 97. Rice will be the 16th member of the Ring of Honor. The other 15 members of the ring are as follows: Mike Alstott, Ronde Barber, Derrick Brooks, Malcolm Glazer, Jon Gruden, John Lynch, Warren Sapp, Bruce Arians, Tony Dungy, Jimmie Giles, Paul Gruber, Monte Kiffin, John McKay, Doug Williams, and Lee Roy Selmon and Doug McKay, the first Buccaneers head coach.
Tony Dungy, who changed the atmosphere for the Buccaneers, just re-added Jon Gruden, who was the head coach when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won their first Super Bowl, and Bruce Arians, who coached the other Super Bowl win that the Buccaneers have. Tampa Bay is 2-0 in its two appearances. Simeon Rice joined the Buccaneers as an unrestricted free agent in 2001 after five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. Rice did not take long to fit in with Tampa Bay; he was the final piece of the puzzle on a defense that is one of the best in the NFL. He led the team in sacks in his first five seasons with the Bucs. Rice became the fifth player in league history to surpass 10 sacks in five consecutive seasons with the same team. Rice was part of the Buccaneers first Super Bowl win in Super Bowl XXXVII.
Not only is Rice going to be a Ring of Honor member for the Buccaneers, he might be wearing a yellow jacket in Canton one day as an NFL Hall of Famer. He played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos, and Indianapolis Colts. He will be inducted into the Ring of Honor on November 30, 2025, as the Bucs will host the Arizona Cardinals, the team that Rice was drafted by. The defense that he was mainly part of was invented by head coach Tony Dungy and defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. That defense was known as the “Tampa 2,” which is still being used today. Rice becomes the eighth member of the Super Bowl team to be added to the Ring of Honor.
The names that are displayed are on the visitors’ side of the stadium, and Jon Gruden’s name, which was taken down and recently put back up. Many players and coaches could be added in the future.
Rice played 174 total games with 161 starts, 122 sacks, 472 tackles, five interceptions, 59 passes defensed, 34 forced fumbles, and eight fumble recoveries. He also played in seven postseason games, adding 23 tackles, seven sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two passes defensed. There are many of the reasons why he is going into the Ring of Honor and possibly the Hall of Fame.
