Spring sports at USF are winding down, and the Bulls just held their spring football game, which was sold out. On a great note, the lacrosse team has ended their regular season as they prepare to head to Norfolk, Virginia, to play the AAC championship tournament. The softball team only has three regular-season games left, and the baseball team is coming into the final month of its regular season. All three teams have had good seasons, and the fans who show up for support are delighted with the results. Let’s look at the last few weeks.
Lacrosse
After defeating Old Dominion, the team had just two games left, and for the just the four time this year, they fell to the Dukes of James Madison. The match took place on the road, and it was a conference game. The Dukes had a 6-1 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The next game was back at home at Corbett Stadium against the Stetson Hatters. The loss did not bother the Lady Bulls as they got back to business, defeating the Hatters 23-6. With the victory, the team finished with a 12-4 record, which is great for the first full season. They now head to play in the AAC tournament as they try to bring the championship home. The Bulls had two players named first team AAC in Sofia Chepenik and Kaitlyn Tartaglione. There were three that made the second team in Kali Cleary, Juliana George, and Mikaela Ness.
Softball
Since the last time we checked in with the USF softball team, they have had seven games. Six of those games were within the conference. The first series took place at home versus the Memphis Tigers, and the Bulls came to play. The Tigers did not stand a chance as they fell in all three games. The three wins extended USF’s win streak to six games in a row. The next game was on the road against the Florida Gators. The Bulls struggled, and the game ended in just five innings as the Gators won 9-1. The last road regular season series was against the North Texas Mean Green. The series was back and forth and ended in the final game in extras, with the Bulls winning two out of three. The final series is against the UTSA Roadrunners. The Bulls are second in the AAC.
Baseball
Since the USF Bulls lost to the Florida State Seminoles, they have had eight games. The first series was against the Charlotte 49ers. USF won the first two games but fell in the final game. The next was a mid-week game against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. The game ended at the wrong end for USF as they fell 10-9 in extras. The next three games were in the conference against one of the worst teams in the AAC, the Wichita State Shockers, and the Bulls won two out of three. The next game was mid-week versus the Stetson Hatters, and they lost 5-3. The Bulls are still second in the AAC, which is much better than they were last year. They now host the teams that are ahead of them in the UTSA Roadrunners, and they have most of May left.
