Three of the sports under the USF Athletics find themselves in the final month of their regular seasons and all of them could be making a postseason appearance.
Lacrosse, softball, and baseball have had good seasons even with two of them being new coaches. The baseball team has done very well under Mitch Hannahs and the lacrosse team is in their first season. The softball team continues to play well, and their season has also gone very well. Let’s look back for the last few weeks.
Lacrosse
The Lady Bulls have had three matches since they defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores. In those three matches they went 2-1. The first game was on the road against the Charlotte 49ers and unfortunately was just the third los that USF has had this season. They final score was 17-16 in a game that was close. This was the first loss since February 23rd and ended their six-game winning streak. Sofia Chepenik scored her 100th career point and she has 50 so far this season. The next game was also on the road, but this one went differently as the Bulls got back on the winning track defeating the Liberty Flames 18-12. USF finally returned home after two matches on the road, and it was Senior Day recognition. They did not fail as they beat Old Dominion Monarchs 15-10. This now leaves just two regular season games left with the AAC Championship starting on May 1st.
Softball
Since the ECU series, the Bulls have two series and have not missed a beat. All the series were against conference opponents and the first was against the FAU Owls. In this series, they fell in two games. In the first, they were unable to score a run falling 8-0 that ended in five innings. The second game went better as they beat the Owls 7-3. In the final game they fell to FAU 5-1. They returned home for Alumni weekend to play the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes. In the three game series they gave up a total of five runs when they scored 17. Game two was the only game that they did not score six runs. There are just 10 regular season games left and their next opponent will be the Memphis Tigers.
Baseball
USF, like many other schools, have games at the start of the week. They hosted the Bethune Cookman Wildcats in a game they won 9-7. After that victory, they hit the road to play the Memphis Tigers in a double header and they won both games. The first game was 5-1 and the second one was 12-7. The Bulls fell in the final game 13-8. Another mid-week game versus the Stetson Hatters, but this time they fell 3-1. USF is tied for second in the conference and the Rice Owls were up next. USF would only win one game out of the three. The only game they won was the first. USF took a bad loss just yesterday as the number seven Florida State Seminoles beat them 19-0. This is the second time USF has struggled versus the Seminoles. There are many games left.
