The MLB has started their season, and we are on the verge of MiLB starting their season. Most teams start their season today. One of those is the Clearwater Threshers which is the low-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. The Threshers start their 2025 season on the road versus the Dunedin Blue Jays. The Dunedin Blue Jays are the low-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. What many do not understand is that most cities around the US when it comes to baseball, they have minor league baseball to view. They get the opportunity to watch these kids develop it hopes they make it the majors. I am looking forward to attending my first minor league game.
The Clearwater Threshers finished 4th in the FSL West division. The Threshers finished the 2024 season with a record of 64-63. The season ticket holder event earlier this week they were there to support their Threshers. They will look to do the same or better in 2025. Last year in the first series of the year they took two out of three from the Bradenton Marauders who finished their season with a record of 54-77. The Marauders are the single-A affiliate of the Pittsburg Pirates. The FSL East division was won by the Palm Beach Cardinals which are the A-affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals would go on to win the Florida State League. Clearwater had the best record for the first half and during the second half they had the worst record.
This year roster will be under manager Marty Malloy and Chris Heintz the hitting coach both pitching coaches in Gustavo Armas and Tyler Higgins are back. The rest of coaching staff is also back with Nerluis Martinez as a position coach and Desmond Jennings the former Tampa Bay Ray as a development coach. The roster is full of talent the same talent that help them have the best record during the first half of the season. One of those players is catcher Eduardo Tait who hit .302 with 87 hits, 42 runs and 11 home runs. Tait had a good in the field as a catcher with a .985 fielding percentage. At the end of the day these are young gentlemen that are trying to achieve the same goal in making it to the majors.
After they finished the three-game series versus the Dunedin Blue Jays they will have their home opener and start a six-game series versus the Daytona Tortugas the A-affiliate to the Cincinnati Reds. The Tortugas finished third overall in the east division of the Florida State League. Daytona finished at .500 with a record of 64-64. It will be exciting to see a minor league baseball game. The things I want to see is how these players and prospects mature and move towards the majors. The Threshers are set to have another great start to the season where they will have to be better is during the second half. If they can do that maybe they will win the Florida State League.
