In what has been a busy trade deadline period, Jimmy Butler is the latest star to be traded. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Golden State Warriors have acquired the multi-time All-Star. The details of the trade are as follows:
Golden State Warriors Receive:
Jimmy Butler
Miami Heat Receive:
Andrew Wiggins
Kyle Anderson
Dennis Schroder
Top-10 protected 2025 first-round pick
It was later reported that as part of an extensive multi-team deal, the Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons would also be involved. The Warriors’ Lindy Waters III and Miami’s Josh Richardson will go to the Detroit Pistons, while Dennis Schroder will head to Utah. P.J. Tucker, who was with the Jazz from an earlier deal with the Clippers, will join Miami as well. Kyle Anderson was originally slated to be traded to the Toronto Raptors, but with Toronto’s portion falling through, the Heat are looking to send Anderson elsewhere.
Recognized as the biggest name in this deal, Jimmy Butler has finally parted ways with the Heat. Throughout the season, the Jimmy Butler trade saga has dominated the basketball landscape. By joining the Golden State Warriors, Butler pairs up with one of the best point guards of all time, Stephen Curry. Reports also indicate that Butler has agreed to a two-year, $121 million extension, despite earlier claims that he did not want to join the Warriors and would not sign an extension with them.
For the Warriors, they secure a star to complement Curry and Draymond Green without sacrificing too much. Although Andrew Wiggins has had a slight resurgence this season, he is still not playing at the level he exhibited a couple of seasons ago. Dennis Schroder, traded to the Warriors earlier this season, has not performed like the player he was in Brooklyn.
For Miami, moving on from Jimmy Butler allows them to concentrate on their current season and their roster. Adding Wiggins gives the team a young wing with the potential to score over 20 PPG in the right situation. They also obtain the Warriors’ 2025 first-round pick, which could prove valuable depending on how the remainder of this season unfolds.
With just under 24 hours left until the 2025 NBA trade deadline, it seems unlikely that the Warriors are finished making moves. Earlier reports suggested the Warriors were interested in reuniting Kevin Durant with Stephen Curry, but Durant expressed no interest in joining the team. There were also rumors that the Warriors might explore trades for Draymond Green, but no developments have emerged from those rumors.
