On Thursday night, the NBA on TNT crew announced the reserves for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game. In the Eastern Conference, the reserves would be:
- Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics)
- Pascal Siakam (Indiana Pacers)
- Darius Garland (Cleveland Cavaliers)
- Cade Cunningham (Detroit Pistons)
- Evan Mobley (Cleveland Cavaliers)
- Damian Lillard (Milwaukee Bucks)
- Tyler Herro (Miami Heat)
In the Western Conference, the reserves are:
- Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves)
- Alperen Sengun (Houston Rockets)
- James Harden (Los Angeles Clippers)
- Jaylen Williams (Oklahoma City Thunder)
- Anthony Davis (Los Angeles Lakers)
- Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs)
- Jarren Jackson Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies)
The announcement of the reserves has already received a fair amount of criticism with several players being seen as snubs. The most notable snub would be Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball. Despite being the highest voter-getter amongst Eastern Conference guards, Melo would miss out on being an All-Star.
Ball currently averages more points, rebounds, and assists than every other Eastern Conference reserve and still did not land an All-Star nod. Many would attribute the Hornets’ record playing to his absence from the reserves list. With the game being for the fans, LaMelo Ball missing out on the game is one of the biggest criticisms of the 2025 All-Star Game thus far.
Melo is only one of many players in the Eastern Conference that has been seen as a snub with names including Trae Young, Franz Wagner, Zach Lavine, and Nikola Vucevic being amongst those snubs. In the Western Conference, several names have been seen as snubs including Domantas Sabonis, Kyrie Irving, Devin Booker, and Norman Powell. While many of these players could make it in as an injury replacement, the frustration from the players is still there.
The announcement of the reserves sees six first-time All-Stars including Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, Tyler Herro, Alperen Sengun, Jaylen Williams, and Victor Wembanyama.
The 24 announced All-Stars will be drafted into three teams by the Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, and Kenny Smith. The fourth team will be the winners of the Rising Stars Challenge that is set to take place on February 14th ahead of the new All-Star Game mini tournament set to take place on February 16th.
