There is good news for the USF Bulls. For the second time in two years, they are heading to a postseason bowl game. Under head coach Alex Golesh, the team has found success. After the team finished 6-6 last year, Golesh said that this was the foundation of how he wanted the team to move forward. Last week, the Bulls dominated the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes 63-30. This was the most dominating USF has looked in all facets of the game. It was also good to see Bryum Brown in uniform even though he did not play. Maybe USF is saving him for the season finale or the bowl game. This is also the best that Bryce Archie has looked as a starting quarterback. For the second game in a row, the running game has been the best part of the offense. The team scored nine touchdowns.
The next opponent for the USF Bulls is the Rice Owls. The Owls lost last year to the Bulls when they defeated them and won their first FBS game in two years. The Owls are also coming off a disappointing loss to the UAB Blazers. The Blazers, like the Owls, have had a terrible 2024 season. One of the major reasons why Rice lost last week was turning the ball over four times and the Blazers took advantage. If they play like that versus USF, they will suffer yet another loss. The offense and defense will have to be ready. Out of four turnovers, three of them came via the interception. The Bulls had one of the weirdest plays last week when they knocked the ball out of a receiver’s hands to cause a fumble which they recovered in the endzone.
The USF Bulls do not have to worry about having to win the final game to become bowl-eligible. Last year they defeated the Charlotte 49ers to get their sixth win. Scoring 63 points last week showed that this team is moving in the right direction. The only bad parts of last week’s game against Tulsa were two missed field goals. Even though the running game was once again dominant, the passing game had its great plays in the game. Look for the Bulls to have the same type of game plan they did last week. The offense had 715 yards of total offense. The defense caused five turnovers. The Bulls will have to try and clean up the penalties, If they can do that, they will get their seventh win for the second season in a row. This accomplishment can happen during the regular season in 2024.
The game will kick off at 2:00 PM EST and take place at Rice Stadium. One team will be looking into the offseason to try and get better next season. The other will be looking forward to a bowl game appearance. Many USF fans want to see their Bulls get to seven wins which would be one more during the regular season last year. The Owls can win and finish the season with four wins but many do not think that will occur. Neither team will be playing the AAC Championship and neither one will be going to the college football playoff. Let’s see how the game turns out.
