You’re all aware that after the Jets choked to the Patriots last weekend, the team’s intellectual giant, Thomas Jefferson Aaron Rodgers, said “you have to go into the darkness and make peace with it.”
Inspired by this deep insight, Sammy Sportface is wearing his Aaron Rodgers costume today for Halloween, sporting the Jets gangreen uniform rocking #8. Like Henry David Thoreau wandering into the woods, he will be going out into the darkness tonight to make peace with it – nothwithstanding the fact that Sportface doesn’t understand if making peace with the darkness is an actual thing.
While listening to “Darkness on the Edge of Town” through his earplugs, Aaron Sportface will try to find someplace quiet to sit and meditate quietly in charcoal black darkness on this most haunting of evenings. It will be hard to find such a respite, though, because little kids will be yelping as they sprint from door to door to fill up their pillowcases with so much candy they’ll be eating it until Valentine’s Day.
“I need to make peace with the darkness tonight because Aaron Rodgers says we all have to,” said Aaron Sportface. “Not sure exactly what that means but Aaron Rodgers said it and he’s a deeper thinker than the rest of us. The kids will be yelling all over the place tonight so I can’t see how it will be peaceful, but if I channel the mindfulness powers of Aaron Rodgers I’m sure I’ll find a way. He is all knowing. He makes peace with the darkness. Who else can do that?”
Making this peace will be challenging because of the gaggle of ghosts gallivanting around. There will be ghosts of a much younger Aaron Rodgers in a Green Bay Packers uniform when he was more skilled and the NFL’s MVP.
There will be ghosts of Jordan Love walking around. He is the quarterback who rose to prominence with Green Bay making Rodgers easy to cut ties with and unload on the Jets.
There will be ghosts of Danica Patrick, his former girlfriend, walking around in a string bikini. There will be ghosts of Aaron Rodgers in a three-piece suit hosting “Jeopardy.”
“With all these ghosts lurking tonight, not sure how I’m going to make peace with the darkness,” said Aaron Sportface. “Maybe it’s not possible to make peace in the darkness. Maybe there’s just uneasiness in the darkness, overwhelming fears your career is ending and you’ve left a trail of enemies so you’re headed for loneliness the rest of your life. Maybe when you say things like making peace with the darkness you turn people off and they go dark on you forever.”
