CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College fell, 31-27, at home against Louisville at Alumni Stadium on Friday night.
Thomas Castellanos was 13-of-28 for 164 yards and three touchdowns. The quarterback also rushed 15 times for 43 yards. Running back Treshaun Ward accounted for 145 total yards, gaining 64 yards (13 carries) and 81 yards in the air (three catches), including a touchdown. Tight end Kamari Morales hauled in three passes for 57 yards and a score.
Boston College’s first two possessions ended with a punt, while Louisville’s first two tries with the ball resulted in a turnover, including an interception by Quintavious Hutchins’ interception deep in Eagles’ territory. Hutchins returned the pick to the BC 37, where the offense took charge.
Three plays later, Castellanos connected with Morales on 4th and 1 for a 54-yard touchdown strike to make it 7-0 BC with 7:21 left in the opening frame.
BC’s drive to begin the second quarter showcased the Ward and Castellanos connection. Ward covered 35 yards on the ground and 22 in the air, capped by a 4th down four-yard touchdown reception with 10:25 left in the first half. Ward accounted for 57 of the 66 yards in the drive as the Eagles extended their lead to 14-0.
On the next Cardinals possession, Hutchins rang up another turnover, this time on a forced fumble and recovery around the 50-yard line. Boston College forced its will down the field once again, finding the endzone for the third time – as Robichaux punched it in from four yards out. The point-after missed, but BC pushed its lead out to 20-0.
Louisville would get on the scoreboard late in the quarter, rushing four yards for the touchdown, making it 20-7. That score would hold into the locker room at the break.
The third quarter saw both teams trading scores. Louisville connected on a 23-yard chip shot on its opening drive, making the score 20-10. But the Eagles responded with a five-play, 74-yard drive, capped by a five-yard TD catch by Jeremiah Franklin, extending it to 27-10 with a little under eight minutes to go in the third. After a turnover by the Cardinals that was overturned deep in BC territory, UofL added another touchdown, getting within 10 at 27-17.
The Cardinals opened the fourth quarter with a touchdown drive on a short field, making it a one-score game at 27-24 and took its first lead of the night on their next drive, pulling ahead 31-27 with 7:12 to go.
KP Price hauled in BC’s second interception of the night, giving the Eagles the ball near the 50-yard line with 3:43 to go. But BC would turn the ball over on downs on its next two drives.
Omar Thornton led BC with nine tackles, including seven solo and two for a loss. Daveon Crouch posted seven tackles (three solo), while Donovan Ezeiruaku and Cameron Martinez each logged six stops.
The Eagles compiled 318 total yards (164 passing; 154 rushing) on 69 total plays, gaining 12 first downs. BC was 7-for-18 on third-down conversions and were 2-for-4 on fourth down.
After a week off, the Eagles return to action at home, hosting Syracuse on Nov. 9 at Alumni Stadium. The game also celebrates Military Appreciation and Healthcare Heroes Day, while honoring the newest class of the Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame. Game time and network clearances are yet to be determined.
