Businesses like to sound forward-thinking and say they’re on a new “transformational journey.”
I’ll tell you my transformational journey: to get to the Wake Forest football game today, hunt down TJ, and find out what the hell is on his mind.
Businesses flood PowerPoint slides with acronyms such as KYC which stands for know your customer. I prefer to be a customer on my personal transformational journey to KFC – Kentucky Fried Chicken.
It’s chic in this Post Modern Era for businesses to say they’re “re-imagining” themselves. This is what I’m re-imagining: the Wake Forest football team winning the ACC title and going to the Orange Bowl like in 2007/8.
Business figureheads are constantly talking about how the organizational cogs (minions) need to “pivot” to upskilling with robust generative artificial intelligence acumen and real-world capabilities becoming horrifyingly skilled. I’ll tell you how I think about pivoting: I want the Wake football alumni to pivot their retirement investments towards paying to lure five-star high school players to join Wake’s team so we can all have a huge party after winning the school’s first national championship in football.
Business bigwigs talk about “solutioning” problems, which is a stupid verb to make the person saying it sound clever and pretentious while turning off all who hear it and even those who don’t.
I think about my urgent and unattainable need to start doing some serious “solutioning” to make my writing worth paying for because ChatGPT can write 10,000 times faster and 20x more logically than I can without all my emotional baggage and need to sleep ten hours a night.
Companies talk about upskilling and reskilling as the key competitive differentiator in the thunderclap age of generative AI. I think of upskilling and upskilling as Wake signing five-star defensive backs who can swat down passes in the endzone so taller receivers don’t catch touchdowns.
That’s the transformational journey I’m on.
