Western Pennsylvania is home to some of the best high school football in the United States. The WPIAL is well known for producing many of the greatest players in the history of football, including George Blanda, Mike Ditka, Aaron Donald, Tony Dorsett, Bill Fralic, Ty Law, Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Joe Namath, and Darrell Revis among the most legendary.

The WPIAL Football Report is your resource for the Aliquippa Quips Report, weekly picks, and rankings by Class, all brought to you by local sports writer Mike Drakulich (@PghSportsNation), who also covers Pitt Football and the Pittsburgh Steelers for NGSCSports.com.

Aliquippa Quips Report

WPIAL Championships (20) | PIAA Championships (5)

Week One arrived for Aliquippa, after having a bye in Week Zero, the Quips were fired up to start the year vs Belle Vernon at The Pit at Heinz Field.

Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, as after numerous lightning delays, the game was called at 9:30, at the request of both coaching staffs.

The absolutely hilarious part was the drive home afterwards, in which not one single flash of lightning was witnessed the rest of the night.

So, hopefully in Week 2, Aliquippa can finally get their season started as they travel down route 65 to face off against the Avonworth Antelopes, who also had their game vs West Mifflin cancelled.

Avonworth is 1-0 after defeating Burrell 24-7 in week zero.

Kickoff is 7:00 pm.
