After one of the closest games of the 2024 Olympics, the Men’s U.S.A. Basketball team will be playing in the gold medal game as they look to win their fifth straight gold medal. The United States 95-91 win over Serbia would be led by Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, who would finish with 36 points, just one point short of the all-time U.S. men’s single-game scoring record of 37 points held by Carmelo Anthony. Curry would shoot 9-14 from beyond the arc while also adding 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal.

Joel Embiid would have his best game of the Olympics so far, finishing with 19 points and 4 rebounds. Embiid would face the harshest criticism from the crowd, going back to his decision to play for the United States over France. LeBron James would put up a triple-double in his performance against Serbia, scoring 16 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and dishing 10 assists. Following the trend of U.S.A. Basketball during the 2024 Olympics, several players would not see playing time with Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton receiving DNP-CDs.

On Serbia’s side, Nikola Jokic would put up 17 points, 11 assists, and 5 rebounds, but Bogdan Bogdanovic would be the standout player for the team. Bogdanovic would put up 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, hitting several important shots in the clutch for Serbia.

With their win over Serbia, U.S.A. Basketball will be playing in the gold medal game, a rematch of the 2020 gold medal game against France. France has had a great run in the Olympics so far, including wins over Germany and Canada. While the French team has several NBA players including Rudy Gobert, Nicolas Batum, and Evan Fournier, Victor Wembanyama has been the driving force for the 2024 Olympic team. Leading in all three major categories with 13.8 PPG, 10.2 RPG, and 3.6 APG, Wemby has been dominating on the Olympic stage at just 20 years old.

With the Gold Medal Game approaching, there is a lot on the line for U.S.A. Basketball. Most importantly, France stands in the way of the team winning their fifth gold medal in a row. The final Olympic game for several superstars including LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant, the trio could end their Olympic careers with another gold medal for LeBron and KD and the first gold medal for Steph.

The gold medal game between the United States and France takes place on Saturday, August 10th at 3:30 PM EST with the bronze medal game between Germany and Serbia also taking place on August 10th at 5:00 AM EST.
