BC Football: Eagles Take the Field for First Camp of O’Brien Era

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College Football returned to action today, taking the field early on a hot Saturday morning for day one of preseason training camp under new head coach Bill O’Brien. Quarterback Thomas Castellanos returns for his second year under center for the Eagles, ready to take a leap with a full offseason under his belt this time around. Wide receiver Lewis Bond returns as one of his favorite targets, and running back Kye Robichaux will accompany him in the backfield once again.

The defensive line returns a lot of veteran experience, led by edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku with defensive tackle Cam Horsely anchoring the middle of the unit. Linebacker Kam Arnold and cornerback Amari Jackson also return as impact players on the defensive side.

DAY ONE DETAILS

Location: Chamberlin Field at Fish Field House

Weather: 80 degrees and sunny

Offensive Highlights: In the first 7-on-7 session, Castellanos logged three completions to Treshaun Ward, Kamari Morales, and Jeremiah Franklin. In the first team session, Castellanos started off with two completions to Ward and Jaedn Skeete, with Ward finding open grass up the right sideline. Castellanos showed off his speed as well, escaping for a nice scramble up the left side in the second team session. Kye Robichaux shined for the offense during team periods on day one, ripping off two consecutive chunk runs, first bouncing to the right sideline and then powering through the middle. The veteran running back followed with a conversion on a screen pass from Castellanos up the left side. Datrell Jones found paydirt on a long touchdown run up the sideline, showing great burst in the open field.

Defensive Highlights: In the opening 7-on-7 session, sophomore defensive back Max Tucker made a nice PBU on a sideline route. Fellow DB Amari Jackson followed with a great diving breakup on a crossing route. Linebacker Daveon Crouch blew up a rush attempt in the backfield in the first team session. Graduate defensive back Bryquice Brown broke up a pass with a nice jumping deflection up the boundary. Brown followed with the defensive play of the day, intercepting a crossing route during 7-on-7 to force the turnover. Veteran defensive back Khari Johnson made a nice play to stuff a short pass in the backfield. Crouch made another great play in the second team session, securing an open field tackle on a swing pass.

Special Teams Highlight: Veteran kicker Liam Connor drilled a 47-yard field goal in the final session.
