
Before anyone gets upset, especially in upstate New York, yes, the America East Baseball Conference had three not two players taken in the recent MLB draft. Nick Roselli of the Binghamton Bearcats, heard his name called on Tuesday in the 11th round by the New York Mets. He became the first 2nd baseman ever taken in the draft from the school. Roselli is the highest player selected in the draft in 34 years. He is also the 16th player from the program to be selected.
He played three years at Binghamton University. In 115 games, For his career, Roselli hit .349 with 153 hits and 104 RBI. He hit 26 home runs in his career with almost 40% of his hits being extra bases. During his three-year stint at the school, Roselli’s numbers got better with every season. He ranks in the top 10 in average (3rd), home runs (4th), on-base percentage (.442. 2nd), and slugging (.608 2nd).
He was a tough out in the postseason as well. In 11 tournament games, Roselli hit .378 including 6-for-8 with two home runs and three RBI in the 2022 NCAA Stanford Regionals. During the final 10 games of his college career, Roselli batted .500 (20-for-40). In his final season with the Bearcats, Nick hit .388 (40-for-103) with 8 home runs and 21 RBI. He slugged .738 with an on-base of .492 in 27 starts. Nick did miss seven weeks due to injury. In America East, his batting average jumped to .391 and his on-base was near .500 with half his hits going for extra bases.
As a second baseman, Roselli had a .970 fielding percentage. 99 chances, 47 putouts, 49 assists, and 3 errors. He helped turn 8 double plays. Nick became the second player taken by the Mets. The last one was, Reed Camache, who was signed as a free agent back in 2016. Camche was also a 2nd baseman.
