The 2026 MLB regular season has entered its most important stretch. With September moving quickly, every game carry extra weight. Several playoff races remain unsettled across both leagues. The Tampa Bay Rays currently lead the American League East. They also hold one of baseball’s best records. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers have created separation in the National League West. The Milwaukee Brewers also control the NL Central race. However, nothing feels completely settled yet. The American League still features battles involving Cleveland, Toronto, Texas, and Houston. The National League has a fascinating race between San Diego and Arizona. So, let’s make a prediction.
American League Playoff Seeds
- Tampa Bay Rays — AL East
The Rays currently own the AL’s top record. Their strong home performance gives them another major advantage. Tampa Bay has also created separation from the Yankees. Therefore, I expect the Rays to finish with the AL’s best record.
- Chicago White Sox — AL Central
Chicago currently leads Cleveland by 1.5 games. The White Sox have also played strong baseball at home. I expect Chicago to hold onto the division lead.
- Houston Astros — AL West
Houston leads Texas by three games entering Friday. That cushion should help the Astros survive the final weeks. The Astros also have valuable postseason experience.
- New York Yankees — Wild Card
New York sits comfortably ahead of Boston in the Wild Card race. The Yankees have also won eight of their last 11 games. Their lineup could become extremely dangerous in October.
- Boston Red Sox — Wild Card
Boston remains in excellent postseason position. However, the Yankees have created meaningful separation in the Wild Card standings. The Red Sox should still secure a playoff spot.
- Cleveland Guardians — Wild Card
Cleveland currently holds the final AL playoff position. Toronto sits only one game behind the Guardians. I expect Cleveland to survive that pressure and reach October.
American League Wild Card Round
No. 4 Yankees defeat No. 5 Red Sox, 2-1
This would create another postseason chapter between two historic rivals. The Yankees have played better recently. Their offensive depth should give them enough firepower.
No. 3 Astros defeat No. 6 Guardians, 2-1
Cleveland can make this series difficult. Still, Houston has more postseason experience and pitching depth. The Astros advance.
American League Division Series
No. 1 Rays defeat No. 4 Yankees, 3-2
This would become one of October’s best series. Tampa Bay already holds an advantage over New York in the season series. However, the Yankees have enough talent to push the Rays. Ultimately, Tampa Bay’s balance wins the series.
No. 2 White Sox defeat No. 3 Astros, 3-2
This is my upset pick in the American League. Chicago has enough pitching to frustrate Houston’s offense. The White Sox also get home-field advantage as the higher seed. American League Championship Series
Rays defeat White Sox, 4-2
Tampa Bay reaches the World Series. The Rays have consistently played like the American League’s most complete team. Their combination of pitching, defense, and timely hitting makes them difficult to eliminate. The Yankees could challenge them. Still, Tampa Bay remains my AL favorite.
National League Playoff Seeds
- Milwaukee Brewers — NL Central
The Brewers currently own the NL’s best record. They also hold a massive lead over the Cubs in the NL Central. That makes Milwaukee my choice for the top NL seed.
- Atlanta Braves — NL East
Atlanta currently leads Philadelphia by four games. The Braves also own the season tiebreaker against the Phillies. That gives Atlanta an important advantage.
- Los Angeles Dodgers — NL West
The Dodgers have dominated the NL West. Los Angeles currently owns an 89-57 record and has won seven straight games. The Dodgers remain a major threat despite the lower seed.
- Philadelphia Phillies — Wild Card
Philadelphia has climbed into strong postseason position. The Phillies currently sit four games behind Atlanta. They should comfortably secure a Wild Card berth.
- Chicago Cubs — Wild Card
Chicago remains within striking distance of Philadelphia. The Cubs also hold several important head-to-head tiebreakers. That could become extremely important during the final weeks.
- San Diego Padres — Wild Card
The Padres currently hold the final NL playoff position. Arizona sits only half a game behind them. Still, I expect San Diego to survive the race.
National League Wild Card Round
No. 4 Phillies defeat No. 5 Cubs, 2-1
This could become a classic NL postseason matchup. Philadelphia has enough offensive firepower to survive Chicago. The Phillies advance after three competitive games.
No. 3 Dodgers defeat No. 6 Padres, 2-0
The Dodgers have too much depth for San Diego. Their pitching staff should control the series. Los Angeles advances without needing a third game.
National League Division Series
No. 1 Brewers defeat No. 4 Phillies, 3-2
Philadelphia could make this series extremely competitive. However, Milwaukee’s consistency gives the Brewers the edge. The Brewers advance to another championship round.
No. 2 Braves defeat No. 3 Dodgers, 3-2
This becomes my biggest postseason upset. Atlanta already owns important advantages against Los Angeles. The Braves have also shown they can handle difficult postseason pressure. Therefore, Atlanta eliminates the defending NL West powerhouse.
National League Championship Series
Brewers defeat Braves, 4-3
This series could go the distance. Both teams have enough pitching and offensive talent to win the National League. Ultimately, Milwaukee’s depth gives the Brewers a narrow advantage. The Brewers return to the World Series.
2026 World Series
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Milwaukee Brewers
This matchup would feature two teams with outstanding regular seasons. The Rays would bring American League experience and a balanced roster. The Brewers would counter with consistency and strong pitching. I expect several close games. However, Tampa Bay has the overall balance to win the championship. World Series Prediction: Rays defeat Brewers, 4-2 The Tampa Bay Rays are my pick to win the 2026 World Series. Tampa Bay currently owns the AL’s best record. The Rays have also separated themselves from their closest division competition. Their potential path would include the Yankees, White Sox, and Brewers. That would make the championship even more impressive. The Rays have enough pitching to handle October pressure. They also have enough offense to win close games. Most importantly, they currently look like the American League’s most complete team.

That is my predicted 2026 MLB playoff bracket.
The postseason picture can still change dramatically before October arrives.
The Wild Card Series begin September 29. The Division Series begin October 3.
For now, though, Tampa Bay gets my championship prediction.
