A day after signing their first draft pick from last month’s draft, the PWHL Boston team was busy adding two more players to next year’s roster. One is a draft pick, while the other is their first free-agent move of the offseason. Hannah Bilka, the fourth overall pick in the first round, signed a three-year deal on Tuesday. Hannah played five years of college hockey, the first four at Boston College, then this past winter at Ohio State where she was a key member of a Buckeyes team that went 35-4 overall and 26-2 in the Big Ten Conference. Ohio State did go on to win the NCAA Women’s National Championship this spring.
Bilka was the team’s leading goal scorer with 22 goals and 26 assists for 48 points. She delivered four power-play goals, two shorthanded goals, and four game-winners. Her plus-minus was at +45. The offensive numbers are of interest here because she is joining a team that during stretches of last season had difficulty putting the puck in the net. The 23-year-old from Coppell Texas has been a member of the U.S. National World Team over the past three years earning one gold medal and two silver medals. No doubt Hannah is a possibility for a roster spot for the next Olympics team in 2026 heading to Italy.
Hannah called it “A dream come true” signing with PWHL Boston. She is looking forward to returning to the city for at least the next three years. General Manager Danielle Marmer is equally happy with bringing Bilka on board calling her a dynamic skater who has elite vision and play-making ability. The GM hopes that Bilka’s goal-scoring in college will translate to the professional game.
The team dipped into the free-agent market for the first time this summer adding a defender in Emma Greco who helped defeat PWHL Boston back in May that won the Walter Cup over PWHL Boston. She has now signed a one-year deal to join the Boston team. She played 22 regular season games with Minnesota and all playoff games during their run. In game five, Greco played 10:45 seconds and registered two hits in the game with no shots. She joins a blue-line crew that was pretty good all season and in the playoffs.
The roster for PWHL Boston now stands at 19 with the three players that have been added. There is still room on the roster for more palyers to be added.
