You saw it. You remember it. You’ll never forget it.
It was 1984.
Madonna rolled around on the floor in a white wedding dress on MTV.
You also saw Travolta in 1977 on the neon flashing disco dance floors blowing all of us away in “Saturday Night Fever” with his hip thrusts and tight pants and shirts, by himself, taking over the joint, the Bee Gees blaring night after night in his wayward disco-dominated life.
And you saw in 2004 the greatest scene in the best movie of all time, “Napoleon Dynamite,” when the goofball downtrodden teenager found his creative soul sporting his “Vote for Pedro” white t-shirt and danced all kinds of unusual in front of the entire high school and we all could do nothing but admire him for letting go of all inhibitions and expressing who he truly was.
All three of these unforgettable dance scenes are going to be re-created by these same three delectable dancers at the first-ever breakdancing competition at the Summer Olympics in Paris.
Yes, breakdancing will be a sanctioned Olympic sport and it’s going to be the breakout story of the games. Every single person in the world will stop what they’re doing to watch these three and other breakdancers roll around on the ground, flail their legs up in the hair while standing on their shoulders, spin around and whatnot as the music plays and we all start breakdancing in our living rooms because we won’t be able to control ourselves.
“I was a big dancing dynamo in Saturday Night Fever but I feel my greatest dancing moments will be this summer at the Olympics rolling around on the ground grooving to the Bee Gees tunes like I did in the New York discos in the ‘70s,” said John Travolta. “Let’s just be honest: no one dances better than me.”
The great thing about breakdancing is contestants can do pretty much anything they want – the wilder the better – and the beneficiaries will be all of us watching around the globe.
“I was a nobody until I lost myself in the dance scene in the movie about my life,” said Napoleon Dynamite. “I figure all I have to do during the Olympics is channel what I felt that day in the movie and the Gold Medal will be mine. This breakdancing will be bigger and more entertaining than what I pulled off in that monumental movie – which was the undisputed greatest dance scene of all time.”
Travolta and Napoleon will be vying for Gold Medals against favorites Phil Wizard of Canada, Shigebix from Japan, Frenchman Danny B-bay, and Kazakhstan’s Amir.
Madonna will be wearing her white wedding dress and rolling around against tough female contenders Logistx from the U.S. and Japan’s B-Girl Ami.
“I can roll around like no one has ever rolled around,” said Madonna.
