I got to experience something last night in seeing both USF Bulls softball and baseball. It was very cool to see a full softball game and then get up, walk about 100 feet, sit down in the baseball stadium, and watch my first college baseball game. It was an overcast night with a slight breeze but in the mid 70’s. The softball team had two games last night. This one was versus the Boston College Eagles, then the Perdue Boilermakers. One of the sad moments was the team wearing ribbons and a player’s jersey hanging in the dugout. That player was Alexis Buchman who lost her battle to brain cancer at the age of 22. All of the players and coaches said positive things about Alexis. There was a sadness in the crowd.
The Eagles were in gold uniforms that nearly shined as they came out of the dugout. The Bulls were in all white once again. It did not take Boston College very long as their catcher Hannah Slike hit a solo home run. The Bulls had a great catch by center fielder Jordan Kadlub making a diving catch. As the USF Bulls came up to bat the Eagles had some fielding errors that led to USF’s first and tying run. After the first inning, the Bulls led 2-1. Where the game took off for the Bulls was the middle innings. In the third and fourth innings, they put up six of nine total runs scored. The Eagles did have a good play as third baseman Nicole Giery made a great catch. In the fourth USF loaded the bases and took advantage with four runs.

The one aspect that killed Boston College was the errors as they committed four of them which extended innings for the USF Bulls. The final score was 9-2. This was a big win for USF. Their next game was a back-and-forth game in which they let their lead slip away falling to the Boilermakers 4-3.
After the softball game, I got up and grabbed a quick beverage at the concession stand. After that, I walked maybe 25 feet and was inside the baseball stadium. The crowd was packed in as both teams were well represented. The USF Bulls opponent was the UConn Huskies.
I got there mid-way through the baseball game that was in the fifth inning. By that time, all of the scoring in the game was done. The Huskies scored in the second and third innings and the Bulls got their only run in the fourth. The crowd hounded the Huskies batters when they came up. The crowd that heard them was either laughing or just annoyed. Either way, it was quite an experience. It was my third softball game and my first baseball game. In both cases, I sat in the stands with the fans. I have to say that it was fun to be involved in how the fans reacted to the games. I am looking forward to attending more softball and baseball games.
