The USF Bulls are a team that is under .500 with a record of 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the AAC. The last two weeks they have struggled on the defensive side of the ball where they have given up 56 points to the UAB Blazers and Florida Atlantic Owls. Many are unsure if the Navy Midshipmen exposed USF’s defense. The Bulls hit the road to play the UConn Huskies who at one time played in the AAC. The Huskies are now an Independent. UConn is coming off their first win over a Rice team USF beat. The only game where they have not had a close game was against the Duke Blue Devils. Going into this game, USF leads the series 12-5. The Bulls are on an eight-game winning streak. This a game of two teams that are still trying to find their way back to winning.
The UConn Huskies have always been known for their men’s and women’s basketball programs. The football team has been up and down. Last week in their only win they got four turnovers versus the Owls. This is how they pulled off a seven-point win. Rice dominated in all offensive categories. Ta’Quan Roberson went 15/19 for 215 yards and two touchdowns. The Huskies also had two rushing touchdowns. In fact, they led at the half 20-14. The second half was even with UConn outscoring Rice 18-17. The Huskies’ defense will be tested by the Bulls’ offense. If they can win the turnover battle the Huskies can win. The offense relies on passes. Both UAB and FAU also had passing attacks which the Bulls struggled against. This game is one that UConn probably will not be favored to win but they have a chance to win.
The USF Bulls must overcome the last two games. Their two-game winning streak ended against UAB. The last two weeks the Bulls have given up too many yards and points. In the UAB game, it was over 600 yards, and in the FAU game almost 600 yards. Byrum Brown was hurt, and the offense did not seem the same. The bright part was Nay’Quan Wright running for 106 yards and one touchdown. The Bulls only scored in the second quarter. At the half, they were only down seven points 21-14. That means the defense was on the field a lot. This has been an issue in the past in which they tire out. They must make some adjustments this week get off the field and not allow UConn to extend drives. This is a game the Bulls can win if they play like they did in their three wins.
The game will be at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut. Game time temperature could be 61 degrees. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 P.M. EST. This game has two teams that are trying to get back on track as programs. The USF Bulls look to be getting closer than the UConn Huskies. This a game that USF should win easily but the Huskies will not allow that. Look for them to come out and make sure they can win as they did last week versus the Rice Owls. Look for USF to sure up on the defensive and try and keep UConn’s passing attack down. We will have to see who comes out on top on Saturday afternoon.
