The Boston College Eagles (3-3, 1-2) took advantage of their bye week to get some rest and become a little healthier. They take to the road this weekend to play a team that was also on a bye week. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-3, 2-1) coming off a big win on the road at Miami two weeks ago, will look to keep things going in the right direction at home Saturday afternoon.
This could be a game that features two quarterbacks who are at the top of their games at the moment. Eagles QB Thomas Castellanos has added a running game to his ability to throw the ball downfield. He heads into Saturday’s noon-time kickoff with 512 yards of rushing. That total placed him third in the nation for QBs. Add to that 1,143 yards of passing, and you can understand why Castellanos has become a dual-threat quarterback. He is one of only three QBs in the nation with one thousand yards passing and 500 yards rushing. He is tied for the lead in FBS with seven rushing touchdowns. He ranks 38th in the country and fifth in the league with 273.8 yards of total offense per game.
His counterpart Haynes King has been responsible for the Yellow Jackets’ offensive punch. He leads the conference in points responsible per game with 18, total points responsible with 180, and leads the ACC with 16 passing touchdowns, which ranks him eighth nationally. King is second in the league, and 13th in the country in total offense with 308.8 yards, third in passing yards per game with 271.8, and fourth in total passing yards on the year with 1,631.
The Boston College offense has started to flex its muscles. Last time out vs Army, the offense ran for a season-high 321 yards. It was the third 200-yard rushing game of the season. They have gone over 100 yards in every game this year. They have surpassed 400 yards in their last three games, and are moving the ball at 394.3 yards a game which places them 65th in the country. Their overall average on the ground is also on the rise. They are second in the league and 24th in the nation at 193.7 yards a game. Last year they were dead last in the league and the country at 63.2 yards.
Georgia Tech puts up 30.8 points a game (55th in the nation), and 431.2 yards a game (39th in the nation), Their defense gives up their share of yardage at 434.3 yards a game which is 115th in the country. The key stat could be that GT allows 214.3 yards on the ground, which is 14th ranked in the league and 128th in the nation. With the way that BC has been able to run the ball lately, that may be the plan of attack for BC. The Yellow Jackets give up 29 points a game which is 88th in the nation. As the second half of the year begins for both teams this weekend, the Yellow Jackets are still in the hunt for a spot in the conference’s title game in December. They are only one game back in the loss column of Florida State, North Carolina, and Duke.
A big game is in store for Boston College and Georgia Tech as the second half of the season gets underway.
