CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Quinten Post led the Eagles with 17 points and five rebounds, while Jaeden Zackery added 14 points and two steals in North Carolina’s 72-64 win over Boston College on Tuesday night.
UNC would lead 31-26 at the break, but built an 11-point lead in the second half, at 52-41 with 12:39 remaining. Boston College used a 14-3 run down the stretch, capped by a layup by Zackery with 6:07 to play. The bucket cut it to one – 56-55 – but the Tar Heels responded with a 7-0 run, which blunted the BC run.
The Eagles got as close as four after Makai Ashton-Langford’s two free throws made it a four-point game – 63-59 – with 2:39 left. Ashton-Langford and DeMarr Langford Jr. tallied eight points apiece.
BC converted on 48.1 percent of its shots from the floor (28-54) and made 12 of 14 foul shots but missed all six attempted 3-pointers. It marked the first time in over 13 years that BC did not make a 3-pointer in a game (vs. Providence – Nov. 28, 2009).
The Tar Heels are 21-6 all-time against the Eagles, including 19-5 since BC joined the ACC in the 2005-06 season. North Carolina has won 15 of the last 16 games in the series.
Boston College faces Notre Dame on the road on Saturday.
