Eagles Fall in ACC Opener at #17/17 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — CJ Penha Jr. scored 14 of his team-high 16 points in the second half, while Jaeden Zackery added 14 points as Boston College dropped its ACC opener at No. 17 Duke, 75-59,  on Saturday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

BC led by three early on, after a T.J. Bickerstaff jumper made it 11-8 with 13:45 left in the opening frame.  Duke responded with a 16-5 run to go up eight, and never trailed the rest of the way.  The Blue Devils, who shot 52.8% from the field, are unbeaten in six home games.

The Blue Devils led 35-23 at halftime, with Boston College checking in at 27.3% shooting from the field.  BC lost starting point guard Makai Ashton-Langford to injury. in the first half, as the grad student played only nine minutes – none in the second half.

The Eagles got as close as 10 – after the second of back-to-back Zackery jumpers made it 47-37 with under 11 minutes to play.

Devin McGlockton had 10 points and seven boards for the Eagles, who have dropped consecutive games for the first time this season.  Bickerstaff chipped with nine points and six boards.

BC returns to action on Tuesday, when it hosts New Hampshire at 7 p.m. at Conte Forum.
