TSU Tigers Dominate Lincoln at Homecoming, 37-2

The TSU Tigers routed the Division III Lincoln Oaklanders 37-2 to get the Tigers to .500 at (4-4), their best mark of the season at this point and a three-game win streak. This was the first meeting ever of these two teams. Lincoln University, located in Oakland, Ca. is in its second year of playing football. Lincoln has played seven consecutive road games spanning from the East coast to the West coast. Coming into this game, the Oaklanders’ defense has given up an average of 44 points per game and offensively averages eight points. Yesterday’s game against Tigers saw Lincoln record 233 total yds 45 passing and 188 rushing) and no points scored. 

 

TSU scored first at the 11:14 mark of the first quarter on a 21-yard pass from QB Andrew Body to WR Tavaris Achane. The extra point was successful giving TSU a 7-0 lead. Lincoln’s lone score was the result of a high snap on a TSU punt that carried into the back of the end zone for a two-point safety ending the 1st quarter 7-2. The Tigers scored again on a 33-yd field goal at the 2:50 mark of the 2nd quarter increasing their lead to 10-2. At the 2:07 mark of the quarter, TSU safety Derrick  Tucker intercepted an out route pass from Lincoln QB Rhett Reilly and returned it 25 yds for a touchdown to make the lead 17-2 at the half. 

 

At the 5:35 mark of the third quarter, TSU scored a three-yard pass on 1st and goal to RB Jacorey Howard. The point-after attempt was successful increasing TSU’s lead to 24-2 which remained thru the end of the 3rd quarter.

 

Texas Southern started off the 4th quarter with another score on their 1st possession with a 5 yd TD pass to  B Kevin Harris. The point after attempt was unsuccessful but increased the score to 30-2. 

 

10:45 into the 4th quarter Body connected on a 34 yd TD pass to WR Eyan Means. The point after was good. TSU put a lid on their Victory 37-2 to celebrate TSU’s 95th Homecoming. 

 

TSU QB Andrew Body threw for 177 yards completing 10 of 21 and two touchdowns. RB Ladarius Owen rushed for 81 yards on 11 carries. The defense was led by safety Derrick Tucker with two interceptions (one which was a pick 6).
