Even though Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is coming off winning his fourth career NFL MVP award, there’s no guarantee he’ll experience the same success after his top receiver Davante Adams parted ways for Vegas. As a result, 45-year-old Tom Brady has entered the conversation as a frontrunner and has some great odds for the 2022 NFL MVP award. Alongside him are some strong contenders in Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Justin Herbert but chances are that Rodgers and Brady will dominate the headlines for the time being. Both have proven pedigree when it comes to the MVP award and will be favorites to win the honor in 2023. However, there are a string of young talented QBs that will be waiting to pounce if presented the opportunity meaning the two veterans will have to produce some of their best work to date if they are to reclaim the MVP crown.

Nine of the past ten MVPs have gone to a quarterback dating back to 2012, and it’s shaping up to be that way yet again with the leading candidates all filling the QB spot. With that said it’s hard to look past Brady who once again is coming out of retirement for a chance at winning his eighth Super Bowl ring. It’d be foolish to doubt his credentials and chances to win his fourth MVP in 2022. Brady sits as the second favorite at +800 to secure the award and is looking good to deliver on that promise having continued his incredible play long into the twilight years of his illustrious career. He first won the award in 2007 followed by becoming the first unanimous MVP winner in 2010. His most recent and final MVP award came in 2017 where he became the oldest player in NFL history to win the award. With the Bucs appearing to have a lethal offense again next season and likely to challenge for the Lombardi trophy, Brady should have a great shot at becoming the league’s MVP once again.

One of his most-likely competitors for the honor will be Rodgers who has been in supreme form for the Packers. He endured a rough start following an offseason of drama, but that disappeared quickly, culminating in yet another MVP award for the ten-time Pro Bowl QB. His award for last season made it two consecutive MVP awards in a row and there is a very good chance he could make it a three-peat. He currently sits in third position with the bookies to retain his MVP crown at +900, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he managed to sneak in ahead of his counterparts. A 69% completion rate and over 4,115 yards thrown isn’t too shabby for a 38-year-old, and more than a few sportsbooks have him close to the top for a third MVP award in a row and a good chance to tie Payton Manning at five total. The only thing denting his chances is the uncertainty surrounding how well Rodgers’ 2022 Green Bay team will play; one thing is for sure, they will miss star-man Davante Adams. Rodgers’ and Adams’ partnership was lethal in 2021 and if Rodgers can replicate the same success then it might in fact boost his MVP chances as the year goes on.

Among the top contenders will also be the up-and-coming Josh Allen at the Buffalo Bills. The Bills will be setting their sights on a Super Bowl win for next season and it’s down to the exploits of their talismanic QB Allen. For those who enjoy betting on the NFL, Allen is the favorite to win MVP with odds of +700. Becoming one of the best young QBs in football after just three seasons has catapulted Allen to the top of the NFL MVP odds for the 2022-23 season. The Bills QB is riding high after a really solid season, even though they fell a bit short in the playoffs. His ability to put up otherworldly numbers through the air while being his team’s most explosive rushing option gives Allen an excellent shot at walking away with the award. He will have to overcome the experienced Rodgers and Brady but has proved he is more than capable of doing just that.

Since getting to the NFL, Patrick Mahomes has stamped his claim as one of the best, and even though he threw 13 interceptions last season, he still logged 4,839 yards in the air. Plus, let’s not forget that Mahomes has legs to help boost his numbers, which could help his 2023 NFL MVP case. A strong late-season run for the Kansas City Chiefs at the end has placed Mahomes back near the top of the MVP race with odds of +900 alongside Rodgers, and he’s likely to be a fixture in the conversation for the better part of the next ten seasons. Swapping Tyreek Hill for JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling will be an adjustment that the young QB will need to navigate his way through, but Mahomes is likely to manage that situation well and will be in contention should he do so.

Justin Herbert is certainly a worthy dark horse candidate with enticing 2022 NFL MVP odds of +950. Herbert was the only QB aside from Brady to throw for over 5,000 yards in the 2021 season, with 38 touchdowns and a 66% completion rate. Always calm and collected, Herbert is likely to be at the forefront of the Chargers’ play this season and will be the key figure that determines how far they can go in 2022. Of course, it’s pretty hard to deny that the fulcrum of any offense in the NFL is the QB, so it makes a certain amount of sense that they generally get the nod for MVP. Cooper Kupp took home the Super Bowl MVP award after an incredible season, so he’s not a bad longshot wager at +7000 considering he led pretty much all stats for receivers last year so if you’re going to look away from the QBs, you should consider Kupp. All things considered, chances are a QB will take home the award and it wouldn’t be surprising if it was once again one of the old guards.
