TSU Tigers Fall Victim To 9th-Inning Comeback By Prairie View A&M

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Prairie View A&M scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 10-9 comeback win over TSU on Saturday.

The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after four innings before TSU’s bats woke up with a three-run fifth to knot the game at 3-all as Gabe Vasquez had two RBI followed by another from Jeremy Almaguer. PVAMU would answer with a run in the fifth to lead 4-3. The Tigers continued their hot streak in the sixth as they recorded five hits which led to five runs and an 8-4 lead. Ruben Bennevendo had the first RBI followed by Roderick Coffee’s two-RBI double along with RBIs from Johnathon Thomas and Gabe Vasquez.

PVAMU drew within 8-6 in the seventh on an RBI double and a passed ball. The Tigers countered with a run in the ninth as the lead increased to 9-6 entering the final inning.

TSU ran into trouble to open the ninth as PVAMU singled and walked which forced the Tigers to change pitchers as CJ Castillo came on in relief of George Osbourne. Castillo picked up the first out but PVAMU scored on an RBI double followed by a two-RBI single which knotted the contest at 9-all. TSU would record the second out as a flyout moved the winning run to third which set up a walk-off single.

Jeremy Gaines, Vasquez, Almaguer, and Coffee had two hits each while Vasquez led with three RBI and two from Coffee. Four pitchers saw action for TSU as Castillo (0-3) was credited with the loss in relief.

The series concludes at 1 p.m. today in Prairie View.
