The Cincinnati Bengals we’re heading into Super Bowl LVI as four-point underdogs with quarterback Joe Burrow at the helm. The Los Angeles Rams, a team with all the veteran superstars, were playing in their home stadium and had most, if not all, the pressure to win.

Quarter one seemed to be all Rams as the run game started off strong. This made it easier for Matthew Stafford’s play-action calls. In six plays, Stafford went 3-3 passing and a touchdown to Odell Beckham Jr. on a back-shoulder throw. For Burrow and the Bengals, it was a slow start with a turnover on downs and a punt on the first two drives. After LA’s punt, running back Joe Mixon had a 13 yard rush up the left side to midfield which was just one of his best runs of the night. Burrow followed that with an amazing 46-yard pass downfield to Jamar Chase to the Rams 11-yard line. Unfortunately, that was it for that drive as Burrow went 0-3 passing forcing them to settle for a field goal, leaving the team down just 7-3.

The second quarter is where it got more interesting. Stafford showed no fear of taking shots as he completed a pass to OBJ for 35-yards and a pass to Darrell Henderson for 25 yards. He finished the drive off with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Kupp in the back right corner of the endzone making the score 13-3 after a bobbled snap by holder Johnny Hekker. Cincy responded with a 12-play touchdown drive of their own ending with a Philly special type of play in the red zone. Mixon would throw a six-yard pass to wide receiver Tee Higgins to give the team their first touchdown of the night making it 13-10. On the next drive, OBJ injured his left knee and was ruled out for the rest of the game and Stafford would later throw an interception. The pass was intended for receiver Van Jefferson in the back of the endzone but was picked off by Jessie Bates III, showing once again that he is not afraid to take shots in games. Back-to-back punts by both teams would close out the first half with the Rams in the lead 13-10 and the Bengals receiving the second-half kickoff.

Starting the second half, you could see the adjustments made by Burrow and the rest of the team. On the first play Burrow throw a bomb down the left sideline to Higgins as he was in one on one coverage with Jalen Ramsey for a 75-yard touchdown. On the play, Higgins appeared to have grabbed the fack mask of Ramsey but no call was made. Cincy was up 17-13 in just the blink of an eye. On the ensuing possession for the Rams, there was a wild turn of events. Stafford’s pass intended for Ben Skowronek was tipped and intercepted by Chidobie Awuzie. The Bengals managed to get a field goal from the turnover making the score 20-13 Cincy. The next drive for the Rams ended in a field goal as the offense started to struggle to get creative with the Bengals’ defense stopping the run and the absence of OBJ. The next seven drives ended in punts for both teams as the game reached a brief stalemate.

The last drive for the Rams was the true highlight of the game with Stafford getting the team downfield into the red zone. With the help of a couple of Bengals defensive penalties kept LA’s hopes alive and gave the team the extra chances to score a touchdown. On third and goal, there was a holding penalty on Cooper Kupp by linebacker Logan Wilson which was kind of controversial. There wasn’t much pulling on the jersey by the second-year player but the refs made the call. Being given a fresh set of downs, Stafford and the offense were looking to punch it in and hopefully a Super Bowl victory. The next play would have been a touchdown pass to Kupp but two offsetting penalties nullified that. The Rams tried to hit Kupp again on a comeback route near the front right pilon but it was incomplete and the Bengals committed another penalty. Holding on Eli Apple which was more evident seeing as he pulled on his jersey. A QB sneak was the next call since they were moved to the one-yard line but Stafford failed to get in. Finally, Kupp scored a touchdown on what would be the game-winning play for the Los Angeles Rams. What made the drive so special was the fact that Stafford had nobody to throw to but Kupp. The Bengals and the whole world knew and they could not stop the duo.

All eyes were on Burrow who seemed to keep his cool during these situations. The drive started with a great 17-yard pass to Chase near midfield. Another nine-yard pass to Tyler Boyd would put them in Rams territory making it 2nd & 1. After back-to-back unsuccessful plays, Aaron Donald would deal the final blow by hurrying Burrow to force an incomplete pass on 4th & 1.

Just like that, the Rams had completed their journey. The deal to get Stafford had paid off and the Rams are now champions of the football world.
