DENVER, Colo. – Boston College center fielder Sal Frelick (Lexington, Mass.) was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 15th overall pick in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday night. Frelick became the second-highest draft pick in BC history and the sixth first-round pick in program history.
Frelick, who claimed a Rawlings/ABCA Gold Glove and the ACC Defensive Player of the Year awards, hit .359 with a 1.002 OPS as a junior. He earned All-ACC First Team honors while slugging 17 doubles, six home runs, and two triples to go with 50 runs and 13 stolen bases.
Through three seasons at BC, Frelick hit .345 with 139 hits and 97 runs. He became the fastest player to 100 career hits in just 72 games. Frelick totaled 27 doubles, 12 home runs, 63 RBI, and 38 stolen bases in his career.
Frelick became the second-highest pick from BC, behind Tony Sanchez (2009, fourth overall) and highest since Justin Dunn (2016, 19th). He is the 78th all-time draft pick from BC and just the second by the Brewers, following Timothy Smith (1989, 31st round).
