UMass Lowell WBB: Denise King Officially Introduced as Head Coach

LOWELL, Mass. – Two weeks after being announced as the women’s basketball head coach, UMass Lowell was officially introduced to Denise King via a press conference on Thursday afternoon, as she became the ninth head coach in program history.

King spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with the River Hawks. UMass Lowell has seen unprecedented growth during her tenure, including back-to-back winning seasons and two straight America East Playoffs semifinal appearances.

“After a national search it didn’t take very long to realize that we didn’t have to look far for the ideal candidate,” commented Director of Athletics Peter Casey. “Denise has demonstrated that she is a team player by actively engaging in everything that she does, with her sole focus being on student-athlete success both on and off the court. I’ve been extremely impressed with her character and commitment to our athletic core values. She has been instrumental in building this program over the last three years as a recruiting coordinator, but most importantly she has served as an exemplary role model for our student-athletes. We look forward to continuing to build a championship program with her at the helm.”

“The best way to describe this feeling is extremely blessed, thank you to all involved for trusting and believing in me to continue to lead this program,” exclaimed Head Coach Denise King. “We are going to continue to work hard, play as one, and get people within the community and outside of our bubble excited about women’s basketball. I certainly pride myself on having great relationships with our student-athletes where I can be honest and up-front, but we are also going to have a lot of fun. Our goal is to continue to make ourselves, our families, and our university proud.”
