CLEVELAND- The NFL draft’s first round will start in less than four weeks. The fateful night of April 29th, 2021 draws near. The highly anticipated draft features plenty of depth on offense and defense. There could be a few first-round shockers so let’s take a look at the prospects who are rising fast up the draft boards. They include BYU’s Zach Wilson, Tulsa’s Zaven Collins, Florida’s Kyle Pitts, and South Carolina’s Jaycee Horn.

1. Quarterback Zach Wilson– BYU- If you watch Wilson’s game film and start talking about how his skills and play style closely mirrors Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, you’re onto something. Wilson not only possesses a cannon arm but he shows great ability to improvise when plays break down. He has escape ability and the rare talent to deliver precise passes on the run. Defenses do not want to force Wilson outside the pocket as that would be a huge mistake. He has deep pass accuracy that can lead to many touchdowns and transform any offense into a scoring unit that spells nightmares for any NFL defense. His pro day gave scouts an even better idea of what Wilson brings to the table.

2. Linebacker Zaven Collins- Tulsa University- As the NFL continues to be more of a passing league, it’s important to have as many defensive players as possible who just have a knack for pass coverage. Tulsa’s Collins has the ability to shut down the passing game and can take away the middle of the field. This isn’t the linebacker to test dink and dunk passes against as he’ll make a quarterback pay for that. He’s also great at blitzing and can create pressure against quarterbacks forcing them to pass before they’re ready.

Will Collins bring that same level of intensity against the running game? Collins must prove he can stop the run at the next level.

3.Tight End Kyle Pitts- Florida- A big passing target that can really move becomes a quarterback’s best friend. The last time we saw someone at least 6’5″ with excellent speed was former Detroit Lions legendary receiver, Calvin Johnson. Fans who want to see that kind of presence on the field again won’t have to wait long. Pitts ran a 4.44 seconds 40-yard-dash. He’s similar to Calvin Johnson and Raiders Tight End Darren Waller. There’s absolutely no way Pitts should be on the board longer than pick ten. Pitts can help any offense stretch the field.

4. Cornerback Jaycee Horn- University of South Carolina- If a team wants a 6’1″ corner who sticks to receivers like glue, Horn is the one to draft. He’s the son of all-time Saints legendary receiver Joe Horn so football is “in his blood”. He’s a corner who treats the position in an almost offensive manner as he constantly looks to pick off passes. He needs to pick off more passes but the potential is there. He may be a late first-round pick but keep an eye on Horn as that could change in the coming weeks.

Predictions-

2. New York Jets- Zach Wilson- Quarterback BYU- The Jets are reportedly trying to trade Sam Darnold. A quarterback change is coming and Wilson may get the call early.

4. Atlanta Falcons- Kyle Pitts- Tight End Florida- The Falcons really like Pitts and always look to improve the offense via the draft. Matt Ryan would really benefit from throwing to Pitts.

14. Minnesota Vikings- Zaven Collins- Tulsa- The Vikings must continue to make building the defense the priority. Minnesota can score but this team needs to limit big plays. This may be a slight reach but Minnesota can get a splash pick here.

16. Arizona Cardinals- Jaycee Horn- South Carolina- Patrick Peterson will suit up for the Minnesota Vikings so Arizona MUST select a cornerback in round 1. The Cardinals will make this decision within the first minute of their pick and select Horn.
