
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Boston College’s 2020-21 season came to an end on Tuesday night, after the Eagles 86-51 loss to 10th-seeded Duke in the opening round of the 2021 New York Life ACC Tournament, held at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.
Makai Ashton-Langford led Boston College with nine points, four assists, and two steals.
Trailing by eight – 20-12 – with 10:20 left in the first half, Duke made 5-of-7 field goals over the next 3:00+, building a 12-point advantage with just under eight minutes left in the half. The Blue Devils led, 41-27, at the break.
In the second half, a CJ Felder layup made it a 13-point game, at 49-36, with 15:34 to play. But Duke put the game out of reach with a 21-4 run over the next seven minutes and change.
Boston College did not have a player score in double figures after shooting just 39.1%. James Karnik and DeMarr Langford each added eight. Senior walk-ons Sam Holtze and Will Jackowitz got in the scoring column. Holtze knocked down a jumper, while Jackowitz tallied his first points in a BC uniform, draining two free throws.
The Eagles connected on 39.1% (18-46) from the floor but were only 1-of-15 from beyond the arc. BC had been averaging 9.4 3-pointers per game this season. Duke connected on 52.5% (32-61) from the floor, making a season-high 15 3-pointers (15-32).
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Makai Ashton-Langford finished with nine points, three boards, four assists, and two steals. He finishes the 2020-21 season with a team-best 3.2 assists per game, a 1.92:1 assist/turnover ratio, and 26 total steals (1.7 SPG).
- DeMarr Langford tallied eight points and four boards on the night.
- James Karnik made 4-of-7 shots, pulling down five rebounds in 21 minutes.
- Jay Heath and CJ Felder – BC’s top two scorers entering the game – scored four points apiece.
- Justin Vander Baan tallied a season-high five points in nine minutes.
- Sam Holtze (two points) and Will Jackowitz (two points) each scored in their final game with BC.
STAT OF THE GAME:
- Tonight’s game marked the first time since Jan. 15, 2020, where Boston College did not have a double-digit scorer.
