GREENSBORO, N.C. – Boston College junior center fielder Sal Frelick (Lexington, Mass.) has been named the ACC Baseball Player of the Week. The honor comes a day after Frelick capped an eight-run, ninth-inning comeback with a game-tying, three-run home run in an eventual 11-9, 10-inning win for the No. 18 Eagles at No. 25 Auburn.
Frelick hit three home runs on the weekend as BC claimed its first series victory, in four tries, over an SEC opponent. He homered twice on Friday night, an 8-2 win. His leadoff single in the top of the ninth on Sunday was his second hit of the day and sparked the Eagles’ rally.
For the week, Frelick hit .571 (8-for-14), including a midweek win over Rhode Island, with an astounding 2.004 OPS. He drove in seven runs, scored six, hit three home runs, and added two doubles.
The award is the first weekly honor of Frelick’s career and the first for an Eagle since Dan Metzdorf earned Pitcher of the Week on March 26, 2018. The last BC position player to be recognized as the ACC Player of the Week was Joe Cronin on March 14, 2016.
No. 13 Boston College, the highest-ranking in program history, is home to face Maine in a recently-scheduled midweek contest at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Brighton. The game will air on ACCNX. This weekend, the Eagles visit No. 15 Louisville for their third straight top-25 opponent on the road. All three games will be streamed on ACCNX.
