BOSTON COLLEGE VS. FLORIDA STATE – ALL-TIME SERIES

  • Today’s game marks the 20th meeting between the two schools.
  • BC is 7-12 all-time vs. FSU – all 19 games have come in ACC play.
  • This is the first regular-season game against FSU in 2020-21.
  • The Feb. 2 game in Chestnut Hill was postponed due to COVID-19.
  • Last year, BC lost, 80-62, to #7/8 FSU (3/7/20) at the Tucker Center.
  • The last Eagles win against FSU came on Jan. 20, 2019 – an 87-82 win over the No. 11 Seminoles.

  • Jay Heath leads BC and ranks 13th in the ACC in scoring (14.6 ppg) – 11th in conference games only (15.3).
  • Among all guards in the ACC, Heath ranks seventh in scoring and is the fifth-best scoring sophomore in the league.
  • The 6-3 guard has scored in double figures in his last six outings – and in 13 of 16 games played this year.
  • He has scored 20 or more points on four occasions this season, including a career-best 25 points against Miami.
  • In BC’s win over the Hurricanes, Heath scored a career-high 25 points, connecting on five 3-pointers.
  • He has posted consecutive 20-point performances at home against N.C. State and Wake Forest.
  • Against Louisville, Heath registered his first career 20-point performance, finishing with 20 (5-10 FG; 4-6 3FG; 6-7 FT).

STEFFON MITCHELL MAKES HISTORY

  • Throughout his four seasons at Boston College, Steffon Mitchell has made his mark on the program’s record book.
  • He is the only player in program history to rank in the top 10 in rebounds, steals, and blocked shots in the BC record book.
  • Since 1996-97, he is the only player in the ACC  – and one of 10 Division I players – to post-career totals of 879 rebounds, 159 steals, and 113 blocks.
  • Notable other players on that list – two National Players of the Year Draymond Green (Mich. State), David West (Xavier); two AP All-Americans Gary Clark (Cincinnati) and  Ethan Happ (Wisconsin), and three conference Defensive Players of the Year Chuck Hayes (Kentucky), Marqus Blakely (Vermont), and Damian Saunders (Duquesne).
  • Mitchell currently ranks eighth all-time in BC history in total rebounds (879) and ninth all-time in rebounding average (8.1 rpg).
  • He ranks seventh in Boston College history in blocked shots (113) and is 10th in steals (159).
  • Poised to become the third player in Boston College history to lead the team in rebounding in each of his four seasons.
  • All-Americans Craig Smith (2002-06) and Bill Curley (1990-94) were the others.
  • During the 2017-18 season, Mitchell became the first freshman in BC history to average better than 8.0 rebounds per game.
  • He is eighth among active Division I players in career rebounds (879) and 24th in rebounding average (8.1 rpg).
  • Mitchell also ranks first in career steals (159) and fourth in career assists (254) among all active players 6-8 or taller.
  • Mitchell was an All-ACC and ACC All-Defensive team selection a season ago.
  • Mitchell has led BC in at least one statistical category (points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks) in 96 of his 108 career games.

READY FREDDIE

  • Frederick Scott – making his first appearance for since Nov. 30 – came off the bench to score 18 points vs. Notre Dame.
  • The grad transfer saw 22 minutes of action, connecting on 6-of-9 shots – including 2-of-4 from the perimeter.
  • He added four rebounds, a blocked shot, and a steal in his first action since playing against St. John’s in Bubbleville.
  • In four games this season, Scott is averaging 8.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per outing, connecting on 57.1% of his FG.
  • In 100 career games at Rider and BC, Scott is averaging nearly 12.0 points per game and is a career 40% 3-point shooter.

CJ FELDER’S PATTERNS OF IMPROVEMENT

  • CJ Felder is one of the most improved players in the ACC, making a giant leap between his freshman and sophomore years.
  • Felder is averaging career-highs in virtually every statistical category.
  • The sophomore is averaging 10.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game.
  • Felder ranks third in the ACC in blocks per game (2.1) and is 16th in rebounding (6.4).
  • He has posted major increases in shooting percentage, both inside the arc and beyond.
  • The sophomore is shooting nearly five percentage points higher from the floor while attempting better than three field goals per game.
  • From beyond the arc, Felder has made 20 3-pointers on the season, making nearly 35% of his long-distance attempts.
  • Entering the season, Felder had only five career 3-pointers and shot 16.1% from long-range last season.

BOO FROM THE WOO – LANGFORD JR. EMERGING

  • DeMarr Langford Jr. scored a season-best 17 points in the Feb. 27 win over Notre Dame.
  • The freshman was 7-of-9 from the foul line, including going 4-for-4 with less than 11 seconds left to seal the victory.
  • Langford added six rebounds, two assists, and a steal against the Irish.
  • Earlier this season, at home against #22/21 Virginia, Langford Jr. tallied a season-high 14 points.
  • Prior to that, in his second collegiate start, he tallied 12 points, eight boards, three assists, and two steals at #21/24 Duke.
  • In 15 games, Langford Jr. is averaging 6.8 points and 4.1 boards while adding 1.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
  • As a starter, Langford Jr. is averaging 10.3 points, 5.3 boards, 2.5 assists, and 1.3 steals in six games.
  • Langford Jr. – nicknamed Boo by his grandmother – is the younger brother of starting point guard Makai Ashton-Langford.
  • On Nov. 26 vs. Rhode Island, they became the first brothers who are Massachusetts natives to start the same game for BC.

COBRA KAI

  • Makai Ashton-Langford posted a remarkable stat line vs.Notre Dame: 18 points, four 3FG, six assists to zero turnovers, and two steals – a stat line only seven other players have reached in 2020-21.
  • The redshirt junior is averaging career-highs in scoring (9.2), rebounding (3.3), assists (2.9), and steals (1.8) this season.
  • He falls one assist short of qualifying for the ACC assist/turnover leaders.  His 1.94:1 mark would rank eighth-best.
