Boston College Completes Season-Opening of Charleston Southern, 10-2

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The Boston College baseball team completed a sweep of Charleston Southern at Shipyard Park with a 10-2 win on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles head home with a 3-0 record, while the Buccaneers start the year 0-3.


BC scored double-digit runs for the third time this weekend. Junior left fielder and leadoff hitter Chris Galland (Sudbury, Mass.) went 1-for-3 with two walks, three runs, and a stolen base.


Freshman right-handed pitcher Joe Vetrano (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) started the game for two innings before handing the ball off to graduate RHP Alex Stiegler (Dallas, Texas). Vetrano allowed one unearned run on a walk with two strikeouts. Stiegler (1-0) struck out five, allowed five hits, and did not issue a walk in four scoreless innings. At the plate, Vetrano went 2-for-4 with a RBI-double in the seven-hole.


Junior center fielder Sal Frelick (Lexington, Mass.) added a 2-for-5 game with a double and two RBI. Sophomore second baseman Luke Gold (Ballston, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

·       BC leads the all-time series vs. CSU, 4-0.

·       Frelick recorded the 23rd multi-hit and ninth multi-RBI game of his career.

·       Galland took sole control of third place for stolen bases in the BC record book with the 48th of his career.

·       Gold registered his sixth career multi-RBI game in just his 18th game as an Eagle.



Boston College opens ACC play, its first of 12 league series, at Duke beginning Friday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. on ACC Network from Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
