Series Splits, Revised Schedule Highlight #AEHoops News

BOSTON – Just two men’s #AEHoops series took place last week and both ended up being splits.

New Hampshire took game one from UAlbany, 71-64, behind 25 points from Nick Guadarrama while the Great Danes bounced back in game two by putting five players in twin figures and shooting 56 percent from the floor en route to an 83-64 win. In the other series, Zach Cooks’ 25 points led NJIT to a 74-65 win over Stony Brook in the opener, but the Seawolves clamped down defensively and dominated the glass to take game two 56-44. On Sunday evening, the conference announced that it has reworked the schedule and will release it in two-week increments for the rest of the season. The change was made in order to maximize scheduling flexibility to best position programs in light of COVID-19 issues (Release). This weekend, UAlbany will host UMass Lowell, Hartford visits Stony Brook, UMBC heads to NJIT and Binghamton hosts New Hampshire. Here are the week #9 men’s basketball awards for the 2020-21 season:

Player of the Week
Jaden Sayles, Stony Brook – Sr., Forward, Cincinnati, Ohio

Averaged a league-best 19.0 points last week and added 7.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for Stony Brook.
Scored a career-best 32 points and added seven rebounds against NJIT on Saturday.
Had six points, eight rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block in Sunday’s win over the Highlanders.
This is Sayles first career #AEHoops Player of the Week honor.

Rookie of the Week
Nick Johnson, New Hampshire – R-Fr., Guard, Bronx, N.Y.

Averaged 10.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for UNH.
Set career-highs in three categories in UNH’s win over UAlbany on Saturday with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.
This is Johnson’s third #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor of the season (12/28, 1/19).
