BC Football: Preseason Blog #12 LIVELY PRACTICE

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The BC football team was back at it for preseason practice Thursday inside Fish Field House. The Eagles were in full pads as both the offense and defense went back and forth with both sides of the ball making plays.

Here is the practice notebook from the 13th practice of preseason camp:

Redshirt freshman quarterback Sam Johnson connected on a 30-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Jaelen Gill in the corner of the end zone. Gill had a big day receiving as he connected on several first down completions with sophomore quarterback Phil Jurkovec as well … redshirt freshman defensive tackle Izaiah Henderson had a sack during team period … Jurkovec looked comfortable in the pocket Thursday throwing to several targets, including a nice gain over the middle to sophomore tight end Joey Luchetti … redshirt freshman running back Pat Garwo ripped off a long run during 11-on-11 action … sophomore wide receiver Zay Flowers showed again his ability to get downfield and behind the secondary on a long 40-yard reception from Jurkovec. Flowers and Gill also showed some excellent vision with the ball in their hands in the open field as well … junior quarterback Dennis Grosel connected with sophomore wideout Ethon Williams on a perfectly timed ball in traffic … senior linebacker John Lamot blew a play up behind the line of scrimmage for the first-team defense … redshirt freshman safety Jalen Williams made a nice play in center field to pick off an errant pass during team period … Jurkovec and Gill teamed up for three completions in one period, including a big play down the sideline … junior tight end Hunter Long grabbed a touchdown reception from Jurkovec as well … sophomore linebacker Nick DeNucci got into the backfield for a TFL while sophomore cornerback Josh DeBerry and senior safety Mike Palmer each had a pass breakup during 11-on-11 work … safety Deon Jones forced a field goal with a stop on third down in the red zone … true freshman defensive tackle Cam Horsley and junior defensive end Marcus Valdez teamed up for a sack Thursday … junior running back David Bailey busted loose for a 20-yard run during teamwork … practice ended with the offense versus the defense on a two-point conversion to win the game. The defense got the upper hand this time as sophomore cornerback Elijah Jones had a pass breakup in the end zone.
