The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a big splash in the free-agent market this past off-season. This is a team that went 5-11 in back to back seasons. Last year they improved to 7-9. This is after the Buccaneers went out and hired Bruce Arians as their head coach. In this writer’s opinion, it was a move that saved the career of Jason Licht who is the Tampa Bay general manager. Everyone in Tampa was excited because of Arians’ history of winning and helping quarterbacks. At the time the Buccaneers had Jameis Winston at the position. Arians said one of the reasons he took the job was he liked Winston’s ability. As the season came to end his opinion changed. Winston’s contract was up, and many believe that the Buccaneers would give him one more chance. The Buccaneers still have never had a quarterback receive a second contract.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to move on from Winston. They somehow were able to persuade the GOAT Tom Brady to become their next quarterback. Many thought he would resign with the New England Patriots. After it was announced he was moving on and coming to Tampa Bay, It started a chain reaction and all the Bucs fans were more than excited and season ticket sales went up. What Tom Brady brings is the experience of winning. He led the Patriots to six Super Bowl titles. The Buccaneers only have one Super Bowl win in their history. That team was led by a great and stellar defense. Brady, on the other hand, had good defenses in New England but the offense was the better part of the team. Arians has coached quarterbacks like Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, and Carson Palmer. He now can coach Tom Brady.

Brady will take care of the ball better than Winston did. There were games that Winston had multiple turnovers. It’s funny that Winston’s first and last pass attempt was a pick-six interception. He also gets probably the best wide receiver duo in the NFL. That would be Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Both Evans and Godwin are coming off 1,000-yard seasons. Brady has always worn the number 12. Chris Godwin wore that number and decided to give it to Brady. What the Tampa Bay fans are hoping for is that he makes everyone better. At the tight end position, the Bucs are not that bad either. They have Cam Brate and O.J. Howard. They will both be better with Brady at the helm. For some reason, Brady was able to get Rob Gronkowski to come out of retirement and join him in Tampa.

Even if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers get only 75% of what Gronkowski was as a Patriot it will help them. The offense is set except for maybe the running back position. These acquisitions will help the defense as well even though they are not on that side of the ball. I have a good feeling that the defense will not be under as much pressure as it has been the past three seasons. This will help the young men in the defensive secondary. This team is ready for the 2020-21 season to kick off. Growing up in the Tampa area, we are all excited to see what the Buccaneers can do. Oh yeah, guess where the Super Bowl is this year? That’s right, in Tampa Bay. It would be funny if the Buccaneers are the first to host a Super Bowl in their home stadium in NFL history!
