River Hawks Drop A Pair to Arizona on Saturday

TUSCON, Ariz. – Cam Climo (Billerica, Mass.) connected on a two-run home run in each game, but Arizona was able to complete the doubleheader sweep against the UMass Lowell baseball team, taking the two contests by scores of 18-4 and 19-4, respectively.

The junior continued his hot start on the season with four hits, five runs driven in and scored twice on the two long balls.

GAME 1
The Wildcats (3-0) jumped out to a quick lead with 10 runs in the first and kept the River Hawks (0-3) off the board until the fourth inning.

UMass Lowell was able to load the bases in the frame and Climo picked up his first RBI on the day with a sac fly. Vinnie Martin (Lodi, N.J.) singled home the second run three pitches later to take advantage of the situation.

Climo’s first homer came with one out in the sixth scoring Oscar Marchena’s (Miami, Fla.) second run of the game.

The Wildcats’ had five players with two or more hits, and Ryan Holgate drove in four going 2-for-3 with one run, as well.

GAME 2
Climo did not wait long to get on the board in the nightcap as he belted the River Hawks to a 2-0 lead in the first on the first pitch he saw, scoring Marchena once again.

Arizona took a 4-2 lead with three runs in the third and added another three in the fourth to create some breathing room.

Climo singled home another run in the fifth, but Marchena was able to score following an error in right field. Freshman Robert Gallagher (Mullica Hill, N.J.) recorded his first career RBI to score fellow freshman, Matt DeBenedetto (North Reading, Mass) in the ninth.

The trio of Climo (3), Marchena (2) and Gallagher (2) combined for seven of UMass Lowell’s nine hits.

The teams wrap up the season-opening series tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
