BC Baseball Announces 2019 Schedule
Eagles Slated for 23 Home Games at Harrington Athletics Village
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team announced its schedule for the 2019 season on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles are scheduled to host 23 home games in year-two at the Harrington Athletics Village; housed on the BC Brighton campus.
“We start our season with three quality weekends against non-conference opponents that will be really good tests and help us get ready for our ACC weekends,” stated head coach Mike Gambino, who enters his ninth season at the helm of the program.
Boston College plays its first 15 games away from home beginning with a four-game series at Jackson State (Feb. 15-17) in Jackson, Miss. Opening day is set for Friday, Feb. 15 against the Tigers, who went 31-17 last season. Jackson State has won 30 games or more in the last six seasons and made back-to-back regionals in 2013 and 2014.
Bethune-Cookman (Feb. 22-24) hosts the Eagles in week two in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Wildcats are coming off a 24-34 seasons after reaching back-to-back regionals in 2016 and 2017.
As the calendar turns to March, BC spends its spring break in the Blue Grass State for back-to-back weekends beginning with a three-team tournament at Eastern Kentucky in Richmond. The Eagles play Evansville (March 1-2) and EKU (Mar. 1 and 3). Boston College plays its first midweek game of the season at Kentucky on Wednesday, March 6 in the brand-new Kentucky Proud Park. The Wildcats, who hosted a regional in 2017 and reached the supers that season, went 34-22 with an RPI of 31 out of the SEC last season.
ACC plays begins on the road as the Eagles remain in Kentucky to take on Atlantic Division rival Louisville (March 8-10). The Cardinals reached their seventh-consecutive regional and finished the season 45-21 overall and 21st in the RPI.
Boston College will then return to the Commonwealth for a road game at Holy Cross (March 12). The Crusaders, who made a regional appearance in 2017, and Eagles have not faced off since a 4-2 BC win in 2015.
The Eagles will be back on the road against division rival and 2017 regional host Wake Forest (Mar. 15-17). Boston College took one of three from the Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem, N.C. two years ago.
“The ACC is always going to be challenging,” added Gambino. “We’re excited about which league opponents we have coming to our place beginning with Clemson.”
A pair of midweek, non-conference tilts break up ACC play in mid-March. BC visits Northeastern (March 19), which was a three-seed in the Raleigh Regional last season with a 36-21 record and 39 ranking in the RPI.
Boston College is then scheduled for its home opener against Siena on March 20.
“It will be a new experience knowing we get to come home off the road and have our first full season in a completed ballpark,” Gambino said of the home opener.
Clemson is coming off a 45-19 season as a regional host and visits Brighton March 22-24 for the first home series of the season. Boston College then takes on regional rival Connecticut (March 26), a 37-win regional team a year ago, in Storrs before diving back into conference play at Florida State (March 29-31), a 43-win regional host.
The first Beanpot game comes to campus when Boston College hosts Massachusetts on Tuesday, April 2 at the beginning of a 10-game homestand. The winner advances to the championship game on Wednesday, April 17 at a location yet to be determined. Hartford, which made a regional last year, visits on April 3.
The homestand continues with a series against North Carolina State (April 5-7), midweek games against Rhode Island (April 9) and Quinnipiac (April 10) plus a series against Georgia Tech (April 12-14). The Wolfpack went 42-18 while reaching a regional final at home. The Yellow Jackets ranked 56th in the RPI with a 31-27 record.
The Eagles visit North Carolina (April 19-21). The Tar Heels represented the ACC in the College World Series last season and finished the year 44-20 overall.
In the midweek, BC faces UMass Lowell (April 23) at home and Bryant (April 24) on the road. The Eagles then welcome Duke (April 26-28); a 2018 Super Regional team. The Blue Devils, who went 45-18 last season, last took on Boston College in 2017 at home; a series won by the Eagles.
BC’s final midweek action arrives with match-ups at Rhode Island (April 30) and at home vs. Harvard (May 1). The Eagles then head to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech (May 3-5).
Following an off-weekend for finals, Boston College wraps up the regular season with four games at home. The Eagles welcome New England foe Maine (May 14) before the final ACC series of the season.
Notre Dame (May 16-18) makes its first appearance at the Harrington Athletics Village in the final weekend of the year. Last season, the Eagles took game two from the Irish, which finished 24-30, and suffered a pair of one-run losses. Boston College swept ND in its last meeting at BC in the final home series at Shea Field two years ago.
The ACC Championship begins May 21 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.
