Spinners break six-game skid with 7-0 win

NORWICH, CT – After dropping six straight games down the home-stretch of the season, the Spinners (34-35) finally broke out of their slump thanks to some key performances by recent roster additions.

Chris Machamer turned in his second straight scoreless start with five shutout innings. The 16th-round draft pick struck out three, walked three, and allowed a pair of base hits.

The Spinners put runners on the corners in the top of the second inning. Devlin Granberg came in to score on a passed ball before outfielder Juan Carlos Abreu, in his second game of the season with Lowell, singled home Marrero to make it 2-0.

The offense continued to make their presence known in the top of the third when Devlin Granberg doubled home Cole Brannen to make it a three-run ball game.

The newcomers struck again in the top of the fifth when 21st-rounder Brandon Howlett doubled home Brannen with two outs. After a walk from Granberg put two on base, Nicholas Northcut delivered a three-run home run to push the lead to seven runs.

Alex Demchak and Victor Garcia combined to throw four shutout innings of relief as the Spinners bullpen closed out the ball game.

With their losing streak snapped, the Spinners head home for a six-game homestand to close out the season, starting with a critical three-game series against the division-leading Tri-City ValleyCats, whom the Spinners currently trail by four games. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
