EXTRA EFFORT LIFTS SPINNERS OVER YANKS

Four-run 10th inning seals victory in Staten Island

LOWELL, MA – Roughly 12 hours after their previous game had ended, the Spinners took the field in Staten Island to take on the Yankees looking for their third straight victory.

Staten Island scored first in the opening frame off starting pitcher Yorvin Pantoja. The Venezuelan-born lefty settled in nicely afterward and went on to strike out seven batters over five innings while allowing a trio of hits and walks.

Lowell tied the game up in the top of the fifth after Lane Milligan got the inning started with a single. Andre Colon and Alberto Schmidt followed up with singles of their own to load the bases for Xavier LeGrant. Milligan would come in to score on a groundout by LeGrant.

The bullpen locked down the Yankees as Francisco Lopez-Soto and Danny Bethea combined to allow only one hit in four shutout innings while striking out five before heading to extra innings.

Tyler Dearden continued his hot streak with a go-ahead single in the top of the 10th put Lowell up 2-1. The following at-bat, Devlin Granberg launched a three-run home run to put the Spinners ahead 5-1 in extras.

Kevin Biondic closed the door on the Yankees after giving up an earned run to finish off a 5-2 victory.

Lowell goes for the sweep on Friday Night with Thaddeus Ward on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
